SIC VIDS: XXL Freshman Class Strongest to Weakest

CelebNMusic247.com is weighing in on this years class by ranking each of the 2014 XXL Freshman Class from strongest artist to weakest.

This is our opinion, but maybe some of you will agree.  They’re calling this class the Dirty Dozen, but we disagree. Here is the list in alphabetical order; August Alsina, Chance The Rapper, Isaiah Rashad, Jarren Benton, Jon Connor, Kevin Gates, Lil Bibby, Lil Durk, Rich Homie Quan, Troy Ave, Ty Dolla Sign and Vic Mensa. Once we did into this list they’re landing in rank position – Here is the list:

So who is the hard hitters in this 2014 Freshman Class?

That remains to be the question, so we first ask you in the next five years who will still be relevant and whose music will survive?

We have few favorites but when you listen the style, the spit, the technique we have our own projections on XXL’s 2014 choice of rappers to rep the hip hop movement for at least the next five years.

We’re gonna give the cold hard truth of the XXL Freshman Class. Now this is CelebNMusic247.com weigh in on the 12 rappers chosen, but we feel there are tow promising rappers that have already been putting out great hip hop for the past few years. That would be Problem, Sage the Gemini, and G-Eazy should have been part of this class

The Strongest to Weakest of the 2014 Class:

1 - Kevin Gates

We gonna kick this off with one of our favorite from the list, and that is Kevin Gates. He’s ratchet, he’s hard and keeps it street and right now there aren’t many rappers who have more to say than just one word with a beat, so we see Gates lasting and taking over the Gucci Mane slot if he keeps on the right track.

Kevin Gates – “Arm & Hammer”

2 – Rich Homie Quan

Rich Homie Quan’s rap style is in the upper 3% of the the freshman class for longevity. His sound, lyrical skill, style, approach to his music all his own and that is what makes success in the hip hop game. We hope that he and Yo Gotti got permission to uf

Yo Gotti – I Know ft. Rich Homie Quan

3 - Jon Connor

Jon Connor skills are perfection but we gotta ask how many of you have heard of Jon Connor which is an obvious reference to the Terminator films. Longevity wise we are really feeling his music but we’re NOT sure if he’ll follow the path of KSR One with a conscious style of rap, stay localized to the east coast or cross over. He is a great rapper, but he alone isn’t enough to make the masses listen.

Jon Connor – “Judge And Jury”

Jon Connor – “Trouble” ft AHMAD & WARHEAD:

4 - Chance The Rapper

Chance The Rapper has been proving his worth for the past couple years with his Acid Rap style making him one of the stand outs in the Freshman Class.

The Worst Guys (Feat. Chance The Rapper) – Childish Gambino:

5- Isaiah Rashad

Isaiah Rashad has soulful take on his rap delivery, his skills are strong as are his production which helps him to stand out in the top of the class.

Isaiah Rashad – “Heavenly Father”

6- Lil Durk

Lil Durk, the Chicago based rapper has a good sound but like a few others in the Freshamn class there is nothing to make him stand out over the rest. As for longevity, Durk talks about his street life in Chicago and the violence, but to survive in the music game he’s gonna have to leave all the craziess of street life to make in as a serious rapper.

Lil Durk – “Dis Ain’t What U Want”

7 – August Alsina

Now we don’t know how August Alsina made the hip hop class, because his straight up Pop/R&B but we are fans. He has the most crossover sound and the footsteps of Usher, Ne Yo, Trey Songz, Pleasure P and more August Alsina has the position to be the biggest artist to come out of this class. He has NOTHING to do with hip hop except for his guest artists on his album, like in his newest track “Get Ya Money” featurig Fabolous.

August Alsina – “Get Ya Money” ft. Fabolous

8 - Ty Dolla Sign

Our next heavy hitter will be Ty Dolla Sign with his T-Pain style approach to the game. We can hear the vocorder. We hope that he grows over thenext few years with his music, because we can see big things coming from Ty.

Ty Dolla Sign – “Never Be The Same” ft. Jay Rock

9 – Jarren Benton

Jarren Benton keeps his music suburban hood with his skater-esque street style music. Prediction of longevity all depends on where he goes with his music, but he’s on the fence so han either way. When you put him up against rappers like Sage the Gemini, IAMSU or Problem he doesn’t compare.

Jarren Benton – “Gimmie The Loot”

10 - Lil Bibby

Lil Bibby has a bit of a different sound but you tell he is well produced, though he comes through with a lazy style rap getting his point across. Does he hold interest??? Time will tell since there is actually nothing special about his music.

Lil Bibby – Tired Of Talkin’ ft Fat Trel

11 – Vic Mensa

It a nice mention for Vic Mensa, his music is up tempo, up beat and touches on real issues, but his more of a pop artist. As for his longevity in hip hop there is none. He needs to go in the direction of pop and follow Ne Yo’s path for success. He is kind of like a Jason Derulo.

Vic Mensa – “Down On My Luck”

12 - Troy Ave

Next would be Troy Ave with his Foxy Brown slick kick sound with a Mase style with a G-Unit street lyrical spit -Longevity is not promised here with Ave, because he came out strong with “Hot Out” and the flat lined with his recent video “Everything” - the only go thing about the video is Pusha T, but he can’t even rescue it from it’s EPIC FAIL.

Troy Ave – “Hot Out”

Troy Ave – “Everything” ft. Pusha T:

If this class follows the footsteps of the 2007 Leaders of the New School class then we can expect only 1 to 3 to make waves like Rich Boy, Plies, Lil Boosie did with their debuts. As for it’s other members Saigon took to Love and Hip Hop for one stint and dropped out. He’s made a couple notable albums but still remains regional fame. Papoose is still in the underground and Joell Ortiz joined Slaughterhouse and has jumped into the forefront of hip hop with Royce da 5’9, and Joe Budden.

This year we are seeing that this years debut artist who will create buzz and drop off are Jon Connor, Lil Durk and Chance The Rapper. Breakouts will be August Alsina, Kevin Gates and Rich Homie Quan. Middle of the Road looks like Ty Dolla Sign, Isaiah Rashad and Jarren Benton. As for the rest, well let’s just congratulate them for making the list.
