Teachers asked to contact lawmaker for reading times

State Rep. Dan Lauwers today encouraged students, parents and teachers to take part in March is Reading Month by opening a book and discovering new places, characters and ideas.

Rep. Lauwers, R-Brockway, said one of the greatest gifts parents can give their children is a love of the written word.

“Reading to children is not only entertaining, it also will instill in them a love of books,” Rep. Lauwers said. “Once children realize the amazing doors that books open in regard to knowledge and imagination, they will continue to read throughout their lives.”

Rep. Lauwers urges teachers in the 81st House District, which includes Algonac Community Schools, Capac Community Schools, East China School District, Marysville Public Schools, Port Huron Area School District, and Yale Public Schools, to contact him to set up times when he can visit their schools and read to students.

Teachers may contact Rep. Lauwers at 517-373-1790 or via email at DanLauwers@house.mi.gov.
