Holland is a Pure Michigan beach community known for its historic Dutch origins and Tulip Time Festival. This year, a family decided to move from Ohio and make Holland their new home after spending just 52 hours in town.
Nicole and Andrew Orr sold their Columbus house and moved their family—including sons Jayden, 11; Jenson, 10; and Jace, 5—to Holland, Mich. The family left their newly-renovated Ohio residence of 15 years after a single stay in Holland; a decision many Michiganders might understand.

Holland is touted as one of the top five safest cities and the second happiest and healthiest in America, so it’s no surprise the Orr’s felt confident in their move to Michigan, even if it came with a little uncertainty.
The city has a small-town, close-knit community and has been called one of the most affordable in which to live and work. The blustery, lake-effect winters and sunny, sandy summers are tempered by Michigan’s incredibly colorful fall season and an impressive display of spring-time tulips, too.
The Holland Sentinel reports that the family signed for their Michigan home just before Easter, as their Ohio house had sold quickly. Andrew started a new job last month with a medical and health resources nonprofit in Spring Lake, and despite some quick decision-making by his parents, son Jayden couldn’t wait to live just a few blocks from the local library.
During the lost decade, many families made the tough choice to move out of the Great Lake State. Since then, Michigan House Republicans have worked tirelessly to encourage Michigan’s recovery by creating jobs and fostering economic growth, and it’s great to hear news of families returning to the state and contributing to its turnaround.
