Weekends are for enjoying good food with the family. A couple of weekends ago, together with BabySumoKids, we tried out the refreshed dim sum menu at Tai Zi Heen, Pullman KLCC.
On weekends and public holidays, Tai Zi Heen offers an All-You-Can-Eat Dim Sum from 11.30am to 2.30pm. The price? A very reasonable RM60.65 nett for adults. The new menu will showcase 30 pork-free dim sum items, including steamed, fried and baked dim sum, rice rolls, congee, wok-fried dishes and Chinese desserts, which diners can enjoy unlimited servings of. What a fantastic offer!
We started off with the BabySumoKids' perennial favourite, chicken and shrimp dumplings filled with mushrooms (siew mai). All the dim sum here is handmade by Chef Jeff and his team. As usual, we need to order two baskets of siew mai as the kids loved it!
Another must-have for us when eating dim sum is the har gao, crystal dumplings filled with dried sole - plump, juicy prawns wrapped in translucent skin.
The pearl grouper rolls are served in a rich lobster broth - you can definitely taste the essence of the sea in this one.
Spicy steamed Nyonya -style dumplings filled with shrimp and chicken
Steamed bamboo charcoal buns with salted egg yolk custard. The sight of the custard oozing out of the fluffy bun sure is a beautiful sight. Delicious!
One of my favorites from their steamed selection - shrimp and chicken dumplings with Szechuan soy chilli dressing. Super smooth, with a spicy kick that will awaken your senses.
The fried items were ace - all crispy with juicy filling, without being oily; we tried the Prawn dumplings with wasabi dressing, Deep fried bean curd rolls with Cheddar cheese and shrimp, and Crabmeat and prawn wontons with sweet and sour dipping sauce.
Baby C really loves steamed rice rolls these days, so we got two portions of this. The accompanying chilli paste was very good too.
Steamed rice rolls filled with shrimp and yellow chives
While the broth was pretty good and appetizing, we couldn't finish this as the portion was way too big. We only ordered one portion but what came was a portion enough to feed at least six; and it had too much noodles and too little duck.
Vermicelli with shredded duck, bean sprouts and pickled cabbage in superior broth
We ordered an array of desserts to share - Chinese herbal jelly, Iced sea coconut with longan and lemon syrup, Salted egg ice cream with red bean paste, and Oven-baked mini egg custard tarts. I thought the salted egg ice cream was pretty unique, a delicious combination of sweet and salty flavours. Definitely a delicious end to our meal.
Definitely one of the best pork-free dim sum options available in KL!
