With the recent emergence of green areas like Kranji Marshes, Coney Island and the naming of Singapore Botanic Gardens as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, most Singaporeans have probably forgotten about this beautiful garden that is filled with such awe-inspiring architecture and beauty that you’ll thought you’ve left the shores of Singapore. Really, we kid you not.

Here are 10 reasons why you must go to Chinese Garden at least once or else you’ve never have lived.

It’s easy to get to
Unlike other areas like Kranji Marhes, Chinese Garden can be said to be one of the easiest to get to, even if you don’t have a car of your own because it’s conveniently located just beside Chinese Garden MRT station.

To get away from the hustle and bustle of city life
The moment you step through the gates, you’ll feel your pent up stresses and anxiety flow away, only to be replaced with a sense of peace and serenity as you take in the huge expanse of green grass and Chinese architecture, particularly the pagoda tower within the garden.

‘Bai Hong Qiao’ – the bridge in Chinese Garden
Modelled after the 17-Arch Bridge at the Summer Palace in Beijing, this is one place you shouldn’t miss if you’re in Chinese Garden. Stand right in the middle of the bridge and enjoy the breeze. Shiok!

Live Turtle and Tortoise Museum
You’ll be surprised to know that within this 13.5 hectares garden is a live turtle and tortoise museum which contains over 200 tortoises and turtles of 60 species. A great way to spend the time if you’re bored of walking around the garden.

Bonsai Garden
Fans of the original karate kid and Mr Miyagi’s bonsai plants, you won’t want to miss this bonsai garden which is home to beautiful bonsai from different countries like Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, China, Japan, Philippines, and Indonesia. Fill your eyes with these beautifully cut plants.

Have a picnic at the teahouse structure
What sounds better than having a picnic at the teahouse with your significant other, basking in the zen-like atmosphere and watching the koi fishes in the lake swim under the water? I thought so too.

Climb up the pagoda tower
It stinks, and the climb is honestly pretty uncomfortable since the it feels enclosed for the duration of the climb, but when you reach the top, it’ll be pretty much worth it when you stand there and take in the panoramic view of the entire garden.

A different side of Singapore
It’s not just the atmosphere that makes you feel like you’re not in Singapore, it’s the people there as well. Go on a Sunday morning and you’ll see a huge crowd of people enjoying themselves at Chinese Garden. While most of them are foreigners, it’s still heartwarming to see people laughing and having fun at the garden. Makes you feel that Singapore isn’t as unhappy as the rest of the world say we are, right?

Two-for-one package
After you have your fill of Chinese Garden, you can make your way to Japanese Garden located just beside. After having your fill of Chinese designs, make your way to appreciate the zen-like atmosphere of Japanese Garden which is modeled after Japan in the middle ages.
