Meal Coordinator / Catering Assistant Job Summary:
The Meal Coordinator is responsible to coordinate all aspects of the home delivered meal program including meal delivery, route coordination, data management and customer service to meet the nutrition and social needs of program participants. The Catering Assistant is responsible for dining room set up, serving tenant meals, and cleaning up dining area after meals.

Meal Coordinator Responsibilities:
Assures that Home Delivered meals (HDM) will be served and ready for delivery in a timely and appropriate manner.
Labels and packages all cold food items.
Assists with hot meal packaging.
Greets volunteers & assures correct meals go out with the route.
Coordinates route sheets for drivers.
When necessary delivers meals to clients homes.
Maintains contact with HDM clients and case managers as appropriate.
Provides the business office with Customer Data Sheets, weekly meal counts, and information for billing and payment purposes.
Maintains records of HDM program.
Is a direct liaison with Nutrition Services Manager.
Communicates regularly with Cooks about concerns, dietary needs and positive feedback.
In a timely manner, reports meal counts and any special meal needs to the cook.
Coordinates Home Delivered Meals Volunteers.
Works with The Good Shepherd Community Volunteer program to recruit, train, and orient volunteers. This includes necessary record keeping, forms, and physical requirements.
Directs schedules and supervises volunteers.
Meets regularly with volunteer staff.
Coordinate all meal program volunteer schedules to assure that training is conducted, follow-through and recognition is given.
Assist with marketing of Senior Dining Program.
Works with Good Shepherd referral staff to identify and recruit potential in-house diners.
Follows up and reports client safety concerns.
Keeps immediate supervisor promptly and fully informed of all problems and takes prompt action where necessary.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Catering Assistant Responsibilities:
Prepares and serves beverages for all meals.
Takes tenants’ orders, places order with kitchen staff and serves meal to tenants.
Assists in checking food quality and temperature for accuracy before distribution.
Assists cook with meal preparation as assigned.
Transports food from main kitchen to dining rooms on campus in a safe manner.
Responsible for communicating with the kitchen staff regarding customer needs, including but not limited to additional quantities of food and/or supplies.
Assists in food preparation for special meals for catered events.
Responsible for setting up, cleaning and serving of catered/special events.
Cleans dining room.
Clears all dirty dishes from dining room.
Sanitizes tables between settings.
Picks up any noticeable food debris, utensils or paper products off floor.
Returns all tables and chairs to proper order.
Cleans kitchen.
Follows departmental procedures to meet sanitation guidelines.
Cleans up food production areas, including cooks equipment and other equipment when used.
Follows hand washing procedures.
Washes surfaces including floor, walls, countertops, shelving, etc.
Labels and dates food items, sorting in appropriate areas.
Disposes food and waste in accordance to established policies.
Washes dishes, serving equipment and cooking equipment and puts it in the proper place.
Cleaning of nutrition carts.
Prepare and package Home Delivered Meals on a weekday basis for community clients.
Fosters a safe, positive, team-oriented atmosphere in the department.
Works cooperatively with other departments, tenants, families and staff to fill expressed needs.
Assists with updates for marker boards and menu boards for tenants.
Demonstrates participation in staff meetings and educational and safety programs, including all mandatory facility in-services. Identifies and seeks opportunities for self and staff growth, when appropriate.
Reports to cook for daily direction and assignment.
Performs additional tasks as assigned by Supervisor.
Qualifications:
Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing, especially with senior population.
Well organized.
Flexible schedule.
Administrative, computer and basic math skills.
Must have a current, valid Driver’s License.
Ability to read, speak and understand English.
Previous experience in food preparation and serving preferred.
Ability to wok as a team member and resolve problem situations constructively.
Experience working with seniors preferred.
Hours: Part-time days
On-Call Rotation: No
Weekend/Holiday Rotation: Yes
