Jamaican born, Marley brother acquaintance, Jesse Royal takes over the Reggae scene.

There’s nothing better than music that is so “feel good” that you catch yourself smiling while listening to it. I started listening to reggae after discovering the many sons of Bob Marley, my “favorite son” being artist Stephen Marley. Delving into the reggae scene deeper and discovering the effect the Marley brothers undoubtedly have in the scene led me to find other reggae artists. Upon my introduction to reggae I kept discovering new artists, and under Stephen Marley, my favorite is Jesse Royal.

Growing up in Jamaica, Jesse Royal actually ended up being classmates with one of Ziggy Marley’s sons. Their friendship evolved into something of a brother hood and they started creating music together. Since then, Jesse never really stopped creating. My brother sent me a song by Jesse known as “This Morning” one day before I was about to begin my hour commute to my internship. Upon hearing that song, I knew it was going to be a good day no matter what. Now, “This Morning” is one of those songs I favor, playing only for certain occasions and times because it is that special.

Finding information on certain reggae artists is tricky. It takes some research, but in a way, it’s refreshing. Most artist now a days post their whole career journeys and personal information on several mediums. The majority of reggae artists I enjoy keep social media to a minimum and release work without much hype or promotion. As a lyric junkie, Jesse hits home with his poetic lyrics and incredible beats. Like most reggae artists, you’ll hear him referencing biblical verses or singing of “Ja”. Don’t let that deter you if you aren’t religious. What Jesse sings of are all words and beliefs based in positivity and the general journey of life. A few months ago Jesse debuted a music video on a larger platform, with Vice’s “Noisey”,  for a song called “Cool & Deadly” produced by Damien Marley.

Sit back, and let Jesse take you to the land of no worries and peace.

Some of my Jesse Royal favorite song suggestions: This Morning, I Feel Your Pain (Dub Vocal), Gimmi Likkle, and Next to You.
