Divisional Description:

This position will be located in the Corporate Division. Corporate provides centralized service and support to Transamerica's operating companies. Service units include corporate accounting, human resources, actuarial, audit, benefits, business development, compliance, information technology, law and tax.

There is currently 1 opening in this department. The candidate will be hired as an Intermediate Attorney or Senior Attorney, based upon qualifications, skills and organizational needs. The responsibilities for both levels are listed below:

Responsibilities & Qualifications for Intermediate Attorney

Performs routine legal work. The Attorney has some experience as a practicing attorney with a demonstrated knowledge of basic legal skills. This position works under some supervision from a more seasoned professional.

Drafts and/or reviews contracts and other documents related to marketing, sales, licenses, purchases, litigation, insurance, or other company issues.

Reviews and approves advertising copy or public statements.

Studies proposed and existing legislation affecting the company and advises departments concerned.

Prepares corporate resolutions and forms.

Guards against legal risks involving the company.

Participates in legal actions for and against the company.

Retains and directs outside counsel without assistance.

Gives legal advice with respect to customer service, corporate administration, marketing relationships, and other issues.

Experience in life and health insurance, privacy, and/or e-commerce issues a plus.

Other duties as assigned based on divisional needs.

Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, instruction, and all safety rules.

Exhibits regular, reliable, punctual and predictable attendance.

Qualifications:

JD degree required. State bar admission. Minimum of 2-5 years of experience. Some demand to juggle shifting priorities and deadlines. Ability to provide quality legal services based on experience in a timely manner. Normal office environment. Travel may be required.

Responsibilities & Qualifications for the Sr Attorney

The Senior Attorney is an attorney with sufficient experience in demonstrating a competence in applying legal skills consistent with departmental practices. This position works with little supervision

Drafts and/or reviews contracts and other documents related to marketing, sales, licenses, purchases, litigation, insurance, or other company issues.

Reviews and approves advertising copy or public statements.

Studies proposed and existing legislation affecting the company and advises departments concerned.

Prepares corporate resolutions and forms.

Guards against legal risks involving the company.

Participates in legal actions for and against the company of a significant nature.

Gives legal advice with respect to customer service, corporate administration, marketing relationships, and other issues.

Problems involved are relatively complex and facts that are occasionally in question for which legal judgment and experience is required.

Retains and directs outside counsel independently.

Advise on changes in laws and regulations.

May be a subject matter expert.

Experience in life and health insurance, privacy, and/or e-commerce issues a plus

Exhibits regular, reliable, punctual and predictable attendance.
