Vivint Solar is looking for an ambitious junior attorney to provide legal advice and counsel on legal matters primarily related to Human Resources, HR and Ethics Compliance, Employee Relations, Compensation and Benefits matters, and State and Local Licensing.

Team engagement, open communications and the ability to forge close working relationships throughout the organization will be critical to the success of the candidate. Candidate must be a confident self-starter who is able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities. Candidate must also enjoy working in a fast-paced and high-energy environment. Candidate must also possess sound judgment, be an analytical and creative thinker, be detail-oriented, and have exceptional oral and written communication skills. The position will report to the corporate legal group’s Associate General Counsel.

Responsibilities:

Provide legal counsel and partner with internal clients to create proactive strategies designed to avoid or minimize exposure to legal liabilit

Help internal customers understand the risks and consequences of a given situation to assist enable them to make informed decisions. Effectively communicate potential consequences and assist develop alternatives to manage identified risks

Identify and analyze legal issues, draft key documents or create templates, present clear recommendations and ensure legal compliance as it relates to applicable areas of law

Identify and proactively manage employee relations matters, including working with the HR function on the creation and delivery of relevant training

Provide oversight to HR and select compliance investigations to ensure proper assignment, management, investigation and resolution in compliance with applicable law and internal procedures

Manage and supervise the Company’s position before governmental agencies, courts and tribunals with respect to applicable areas of law

Strategically manage and provide legal support as needed for employment litigation

Provide timely advice and support on US leave and disability matters, wage and hour, immigration and employee privacy laws

Support the HR team with hiring (including at times rapid high volume hiring), discipline and termination decisions, organization redesign and restructuring, and, where necessary, reductions in force

Stay current with relevant legal developments, best practices and benchmarks in applicable areas of law; share appropriately with HR leadership and business partners and assist clients in implementing policies and procedures in response thereto.

Assist and manage outside counsel as needed and within budget.

Drive high quality legal work and ensure that it is performed in a cost-efficient manner.

Required Experience

Bachelor’s Degree and JD with excellent academic credentials; Active bar membership in good standing in a U.S. jurisdiction

1 to 2 years of relevant experience at a reputable law firm or in-house position preferred

Candidates should have a thorough knowledge and understanding of relevant US labor and employment laws, including the National Labor Relations Act, ADA, FMLA, Title VII Civil Rights Act, OSHA, ADEA, FLSA, WARN, OFCCP regulations, workers compensation and unemployment law. Benefits experience and experience with labor relations and the collective bargaining process would be a plus
