GuideOne Insurance is a nationally recognized Property and Casualty Insurance company that provides insurance to houses of worship, senior living communities and educational institutions. We also offer homeowners, personal auto and renters insurance.

* This position will support the state of California and we are open on location.

The primary function of the Litigation Counsel is to handle all assigned litigation and other legal matters for GuideOne Mutual Insurance Company, its subsidiaries (GuideOne) and its policyholders, where and when no conflict exists between the two.

The individual may also work with outside counsel and staff counsel by providing advice and other direct support including but not limited to filing responsive pleadings, answering discovery, and drafting pleadings and motions and communicating with the Claim department.

Additionally, this person shall be able to competently present the controversy at trial when appropriate, while maintaining the independent professional judgment required of a lawyer.

The Litigation Counsel must possess the requisite experience, skill and judgment required to zealously represent the interests of GuideOne and its policyholders with little or no direct supervision. The individual will demonstrate expertise with a variety of legal concepts, practices, and procedures while relying upon his or her experience and judgment to plan and accomplish job responsibilities and goals. Travel is required. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

Skills & Requirements

Graduate from an accredited law school

5 or more years of litigation practice

Licensed to practice law in the jurisdiction of hire and possess the ability to make application to practice law in other states and jurisdictions, whether by exam or motion

2-5 years of experience in the insurance industry preferred

Insurance defense background

CPCU or other insurance related course work preferred

Travel required
