Wrestlers and parents caught on very quickly to the FloArena bout board and all comments were positive regarding the format.
TGA stopped in and participated in some live training on the use of the Flo software.
436 wrestlers competed so very few scratches, even with the Hurricane in the SE.
A full day of competition 8am-8pm. Really there were no complaints all day other than the normal clearing of the floor so folks could see. Travis only had 1 Mnt Dew and 1 taco bag all day. I didn't see any bedazzled jeans in the house. Nobody got naked in protest of match result.
Cliff Fretwell had the vision years ago to bring the event to GA and this year he raised the bar with video coverage and using his flat panel monitors as score boards. The event for years now has drawn multiple States repping some of the best wrestling clubs in the SE. Many of the participants aren't there to qualify (they already have) but rather to face tough competition.
106 was very competitive with kids that compete frequently on the National level but at the end of the day it was the experienced Logan Ashton (GA) that made it to the top of the podium, pinning 8th grade sensation Alex Whitworth (McCallie TN) in the finals.
113 team mates Cade Davis (NC) and rising freshmen Logan Lambert (NC) elected to not wrestle the finals both wrestlers looked great all day. Lambert beat a rising freshmen in Nick Masters (GA) 7-4 in the semi finals. Davis beat the #1 seed, Justin Smith (SC) during his march to the finals. One the deepest weights. Bryson Neace (GA) wrestled back to take 3rd beating Masters in the 3/4 match.
120 rising freshmen and recent move-in, Drew Eller (GA) beat rising freshmen Lucas DeSilva (GA) in the finals. DeSilva beat the #1 seed Jordie White (SC) to reach the the championship but Eller prevailed in a close final.
126 was another highly competitive weight class with Dawson Bates of (GA) winning with really no issues. Miles Grier (NC) elected to not wrestle the final. Bates was dominant all day.
132 Champ Colton Landers (TN) was impressive on his march to the Championship. He beat Travis Chavis (SC)
138 was seeded with AJ Leitten (SC) as the #1 and Jacob Mariakis (GA) as the #2. Joey Roberts (KY) upset Mariakis early in the event and ultimately Leitten would go on to dominate this bracket with his only close Dec win 3-0 in the finals over J. Hart (NC). Another deep weight maybe the deepest.
145 Justin Ruffin (GA) won the weight class beating the 2nd, 3rd and 4th placers. Rising Freshmen Charlie Darracott (GA) and Gavin Mitchiener (FL) also impressed taking 2nd and 3rd.
152 Tony Morales (AL) looked fit strong and dominant at this weight winning in the finals over Cody Anderson (GA).
160 was possibly the most competitive weight class with several studs registered. It came down to Cody Cochran (GA) vs Isaiah Johnson (NC) with Johnson winning a hard fought 3-2 decision.
170 Jonathan Schrimsher (AL) dominant all day won the wight class easily.Defeated Connor Carroll (GA) in the finals.
182 came down to Christian Knop (AL) vs Zach Noble (AL) with Knop winning a tight 3-1 war.
195 Seth Bruder (AL) over Jordan Lewis (GA) 6-5.
220 Truman Ross (TN) over Seth Dupree (AL) 5-0
Hwt Paul Robinson (GA) absolutely dominated the field beating Kobe Hicks (GA) in the finals 9-2.
