Part 2 of the Summer Fancy Food Show (SFFS); the largest specialty food trade event in North America and the leading showcase of industry innovation, bringing specialty food’s top manufacturers, buyers, and thought leaders together under one roof for three days of delectable discovery, brought even more gluten free goodies my way! If you read yesterday’s post, you know that there were over 2,000 vendors from more than 80 countries around showcasing nearly 200,000 products at the 2015 Summer Fancy Food Show. Now, not everything was gluten free, but there were certainly many many options; more than I was ever expecting to find. I love that more and more companies are creating gluten free products. I wish I could have attended the third day of the show, but that was not possible, and I know there are many booths and gluten free products I didn’t get to try. But, there were plenty of great finds I want to share with you!

Mamma Chia introduced its Organic Chia Vitality bars just in time for summer and back-to-school snacking. In this bar, nutrient-rich chia seeds are combined with deep, rich dark chocolate, crunchy nuts, ripened fruit and sweet organic honey, making them a truly delicious gluten free snack. The richest plant-based source of Omega-3s, chia seeds are an excellent source of dietary fiber, complete protein and antioxidants. Both the Maya and Aztecs held this ancient seed in high esteem for increasing vitality, strength, and overall good health (hence its name). Every nutritious bar includes 1000 mg of Omega-3s; 3 – 6 grams of protein (soy-free and dairy-free); 3 – 4 grams of fiber and 180 calories.

I also tried Mamma Chia Chia Squeeze for the first time. Organic chia seeds are infused with delicious fruits and vegetables to create a convenient, fun, and tasty snack for active people of all ages. High in Omega-3s, 2g protein, and 4g fiber per serving, Chia Squeeze is a satisfying anytime snack that naturally provides the vitality to power your soul’s purpose. I’m a big fan and I’ve been drinking them in the morning after my workouts. So far, I like every flavor I’ve tried.

Umpqua Oats has taken the specialty food arena by storm by offering all natural “whole” rolled oat oatmeal in an eye catching to go container. The big stores have produced their own version of oatmeal, but most (McDonalds and Starbucks) offer an instant product. Umpqua Oats does not use any artificial coloring, preservatives or fillers; just good quality fruits, nuts and other mix-ins. The only exception is Salted Caramel Meltdown, which contains a form of processed soybean that is not 100% “natural.” Even though many of the ingredients are certified as organic, Umpqua Oats is not yet certified organic. Umpqua Oats are made in a plant where wheat products are produced. Although they are regularly tested at under 20 ppm, they are not certified gluten free.

Rigoni di Asiago, the Italian producers of organic honey, fruit spread, and chocolate-hazelnut spread, was sampling its new organically-farmed spreads in two delicious flavors – Mandarin Honey and Fiordifrutta Pear. The spreads are gluten free and free of preservatives, aromas, colors, and artificial sweeteners. Rigoni di Asiago was one of the first European companies to adopt organic farming in the early 1990s and merit the Certified Organic label.

Wild Planet Foods: Have you ever experienced premium-quality tuna? Tuna so luscious that the addition of mayonnaise would just ruin it? Well, if you haven’t, you should. There’s really nothing else A far, far cry from the tuna of our childhoods, Wild Planet Foods, leader in sustainable seafood, is launching Wild Albacore Fillets in Spanish Olive Oil. Packed in re-sealable glass jars, filled with restaurant-quality sophistication and the convenience of a specialty packaged product, the new tuna creates an all-consuming gourmet experience for the taste buds. Pour the whole jar over a salad and you’ll quickly see the difference. With a deliciously delicate tuna flavor and extremely moist, thickly-cut fish fillets that come apart at the touch of a fork, nothing else is needed – no salt, no dressing, just a healthy appetite. The 100% sustainable pole and troll caught Wild Planet Albacore Tuna Fillets are low in mercury and an excellent source of Omega 3 due to the smaller, individually-caught tuna sourced by the company. This new product joins their award-winning product line, including White Anchovies, Wild Pacific Sardines, Wild Shrimp and more, along with their brand new Pacific Mackerel Fillets.

Skimpy mixers are low calorie drink mixers that tastes great with your favorite Rum, Tequila, Whiskey, Champagne, or Vodka! No matter what you have in the kitchen, you will be able to make an amazing, but slightly sweet, drink! There are Six flavors- Orange, Pineapple, Berry Lemonade, Skimpy Margarita, Sweet ‘N Sour and Cherry Limeade. Each flavor is under 45 Calories and 7 grams of sugar. Now you can have your favorite drink without the guilt of all the calories and sugar!

Seattle-based Skillet, Seattle’s adored airstream food truck-turned beloved restaurant brand, goes national with expanded distribution of its famous “Bacon Jam” and Pumpkin Ketchup products. Skillet’s line of Bacon Spreads include two flavors: the Original Balsamic & Brown Sugar and Fennel & Black Pepper. Skillet’s line of Pumpkin Ketchups include three flavors: Brown Sugar and Apple Vinegar, Chipotle and Thai Coconut.

We need to talk about pumpkin ketchup! I was so intrigued, plus I love anything pumpkin flavored. Skillet Pumpkin Ketchup is a pumpkin based condiment made with fresh pumpkin and spices and are filled with rich vitamins and minerals.  All three flavors have only 15 calories per 1 ounce serving and have a two-year shelf life. The Brown Sugar & Apple Vinegar and Chipotle flavors are also gluten free, vegetarian and vegan.  These ketchups work great as a sauce for pasta, spread for sandwiches or used simply as ketchup. Yum! Skillet products can be found online as well as at Whole Foods, Metropolitan Market, Sur La Table and other specialty stores throughout the country.

Daily Greens Hemp Milks & Chia Juices are plant-based, complete-protein milk-alternatives made with organic non-GMO hemp, one of the most sustainable and nutritious crops. The line includes unique ingredients such as matcha green tea, blue-green algae and wheatgrass. The chia green juice line is made with ground chia seeds and cold-pressed dark leafy greens. Chia seeds are naturally hydrating superfoods, offering two times more protein than most grains and five times more calcium than dairy milk.

Bob’s Red Mill was sampling their new Gluten Free Muffin Mix and reformulated gluten free baking mixes, among a host of other new products launched over the past year. The new Gluten Free Muffin Mix is delicious and home bakers only have to add a few ingredients, mix and bake. The Gluten Free Muffin Mix is also customizable, enabling you to add your favorite mix-ins, including fruits, nuts or chocolate.

In addition to the new Gluten Free Muffin Mix, Bob’s Red Mill has reformulated three of its existing gluten free baking mixes to provide improved results that rival the taste and texture of wheat-based baked goods. Bob’s Red Mill also gave all of the products’ packaging an updated and consistent design, which will make them easier to find on store shelves. As with all of Bob’s Red Mill’s gluten free products, the new products adhere to strict safety standards, including being produced in a 100% dedicated gluten free facility, and they are ELISA tested to verify gluten free integrity. All four of these products also are dairy free. The reformulated gluten free baking mixes consist of the following products: Gluten Free Brownie Mix, Gluten Free Chocolate Cake Mix, and Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix.

The Gluten Free Bar (GFB), created by two celiac brothers and a pastry chef, debuted two new flavors that are being added to their Bites lineup, a product that is like a healthy truffle or rum ball! PB&J, made with creamy peanut butter and real dried strawberries, and Dark Chocolate Hazelnut, a decadent dessert full of good-for-you ingredients and protein, are the newest additions. The GFB bars and bites are made with wholesome, easy-to-understand ingredients like toasted cashews, Virginia peanuts, certified gluten-free oats, crisped brown rice, organic dark chocolate, and dried cranberries. Made in house at the company’s dedicated facility, the products are chewy and moist on the inside and feature The Gluten Free Bar’s signature lightly toasted crunch on the outside. Each variety is certified gluten free, vegan and Kosher, sweetened with agave nectar, brown rice syrup, and dates instead of added sugar, free of fillers and additives, and made with all-natural and GMO-free ingredients, 70% of which are certified organic.

Navitas Naturals showcased a new line of Coconut Chips in three delicious flavors: Caramel, Cacao and Chili Lime. Coconuts have been enjoyed as a tropical treat for thousands of years, and Navitas Naturals has made this satiating superfood as delicious as it is nutritious. The three new varieties of Coconut Chips are created by toasting premium coconut slices at low temperatures to create a rich buttery flavor. These unique snacks, available in three craveable flavors, are more than just a satisfying snack – try the certified organic, gluten free, and non-GMO coconut treats in yogurt, salad, trail mix, desserts or wherever culinary creativity takes you.  The premium ingredients contain no refined sugars, dairy, artificial colors or flavors.  These nutritious, yet indulgent, Handfuls of Goodness are a good source of energy, fiber and healthy fats that tame hunger and taste good! In addition to these snacks, Navitas Naturals  is best known for single ingredient superfoods from around the world including Cacao, Maca, Chia, Goji, Dragonfruit and Hemp.

Munch Pack, delicious oatmeal fruit squeezes—currently available in Blueberry Acai Flax, Raspberry Coconut and Apple Quinoa Cinnamon—are certified gluten free, non-GMO verified, vegan, and kosher. Munk Pack is a satisfying mix of whole grain rolled oats, flax and delicious fruits. A good source of fiber, it provides sustained energy to carry you through your day. You can buy all three flavors online.
