20 Years in Jail: Father Gordon MacRae, now 61, is a modern-day Job who on September 23 will have spent 20 years in an American prison. In 1994 he was sentenced to a prison term of 33 to 67 years for alleged sexual abuse after he had three times refused a plea deal. Already in 2005, Dorothy Rabinowitz, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and member of The Wall Street Journal Editorial Board, published an account of the travesty of justice by which Father Gordon MacRae was convicted. Coached By Professionals: Father Gordon MacRae was accused by a certain Thomas Grover who has a history of theft, drugs, and violence. He provided not a single witness, even though the alleged offenses took place in populated areas. During the trial Grover was coached by professionals. A counselor stood at the back of the courtroom during his testimony, away from the sight of the jury instructing him when to feign crying. On cue, he cried loudly, often at some length. Out Of Body Experiences: Grover claimed at the trial that Fr Gordon MacRae sexually abused him when he was 15-years-old during five episodes. To the question why he returned willingly after the first horrifying attack for four more sessions, Grover explained, he had come to each new meeting with no memory of the previous attack. He said he had – quote - “out of body” experiences that blocked his recollection. Further, Grover conveniently changed his story many times. A Compulsive Liar: There are signed statements by the family and friends of Thomas Grover, Fr MacRae’s accuser. Grover’s former wife and stepson say that he is a “compulsive liar,” “manipulator,” “drama queen,” and “hustler” who “molded stories to fit his needs”. When Grover was confronted with his lies, he would lose his temper and sign himself into the psychiatric ward at a local hospital. The Diocese of Manchester rewarded him with $195,000. He bragged to his buddies, with bags of cash in his hands that he had succeeded in “putting it over on the church.”
