With the start of each quarter, Globe University-Online likes to take a moment to introduce our new instructors to all of our students and staff. This quarter, the Online division was lucky enough to welcome four new instructors to the team. Meet each of them by checking out their professional biographies and experiences below!
Information Technology instructor, Michael Abram
Michael Abram—Information Technology
What’s your experience in the IT field?
I moved to Minneapolis in 2007 from Michigan to further my career with the Target Corporation. I have been with Target since 2002 where I have had several roles with the latest as a business consultant.
What is your educational background?
I have a Master’s in Information Systems with an emphasis on strong innovation and maximizing productivity skills that have aligned me with high visibility projects.
What type of work did you do prior to joining the Online team?
Before my career with Target, I owned my own business; Value Added Reseller (VAR) for 9 years. This is when I started training business personnel on how to use their technology. Since then, I continue to share my talents with teaching others within Target, Minnesota School of Business and Globe University.
Intercultural Communications instructor, Dr. Aimee Callahan
Dr. Aimee L. Callahan—Intercultural Communications
About Dr. Callahan
I have spent my entire career thus far, over 13 years, working in higher education. Being a first generation, nontraditional student myself, I have a strong passion for helping students be successful in pursuing their degrees! I taught and studied at the University of Wyoming and have had adjunct faculty positions over the years. I have worked as an academic dean and focus on online learning. I have also worked internationally with China teaching and fostering student and instructor exchange opportunities. I have my master’s degrees in communication and also in education. My Ed.D. is in adult learning and post-secondary education from University of Wyoming.
What are your hobbies?
When I’m not working, I am spending time with my family and two dogs. We live in the Denver area, and you can usually find us playing in the snow in the winter or hiking the Colorado trails in the summer. I also love to travel and experience other cities and cultures as much as possible.
Information Technology instructor, Paul Mancini.
Paul Mancini—Information Technology
What’s your experience in the information technology (IT) field?
I have over 15 years of experience in the IT field. I started my IT career as a web developer/system administrator for the U.S. Army. I gradually moved into the information security field and went to work for the Department of Veterans Affairs. I am presently the program manager for the Department of Veterans Affairs Mobile Application Initiative. I have been teaching online information technology courses for over 8 years, and I thoroughly enjoy my interactions with the students. I believe that I learn almost as much as the students.
What is your educational background?
I have an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in network management, a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems, and a master’s degree in computer information systems. I am also a certified Computer Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
What are your hobbies?
I try to get out and go fishing as much as possible. I live in Florida and being so close to the ocean can be a major distraction when you’re trying to put your nose to the grindstone and get some work done.
What’s your favorite part about teaching?
I think my favorite part of teaching is the opportunity to give back a little for the education that I received. I like to see students progressing through the class and being able to understand more and more about information technology.
Career Capstone instructor, Mai Xee
Mai Xee—Career Capstone
Tell us a bit about yourself.
I recently joined the Career Services Online department in December 2013 as a career services coordinator and adjunct faculty. I manage all the business programs, which include diploma, associate, bachelor’s in business administration and bachelor’s in business management.
What’s your educational background?
I have a bachelor’s degree in business with a double emphasis in marketing and international business.
What are your hobbies?
In my spare time, I love to cook, particularly Southeast Asian inspired cuisine. I also love to read. I’ve been an avid Harry Potter fan since I was 10, and I actually reread one of the books every summer. I would also say I’m an avid runner, but I haven’t been faithful to that hobby for the past five months. I keep saying I will recommit though—don’t we all?
