West Island Citizen Advocacy is thrilled to present its annual wine tasting event, “In the Spirit of Advocacy” sponsored by Frank Lyman Design. It is community-minded supporters like Frank Lyman that have made our wine tasting event a continued success. This year we're excited to collaborate with Sheldon Kagan of Sheldon Kagan International, a prominent figure in the Montreal entertainment industry. Mr. Kagan has recently retired after 50 years of working in show business and is now focusing his energy on making a difference in the community. As a West Island resident himself, he has emphasized the importance of giving back locally. Since 1976, WICA has been providing essential services such as practical, emotional and social support to the most vulnerable members of the community through a number of programs such as; matching one-to-one with volunteers, a semi-supervised housing program for residents living with mental health issues, defense of rights just to mention a few. With cuts to health and social services, more and more marginalized citizens are reaching out to WICA for support. By raising money through fundraisers such as “In the Spirit of Advocacy”, we can ensure that we have the financial resources to continue reaching out into community. The event takes place on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. at the Sarto-Desnoyers Community Centre in Dorval, a venue which was generously provided by the Cité de Dorval.
