Situated down at Spain’s sunny south eastern tip, the Murcia region has plenty of great sites and experiences on offer. Renting a car is often the best way of ensuring that you do not miss anything as a traveller.

Having a car available means that visitors can access places such as the Mar Menor inlet, from their base in the city of Murcia itself. The Mar Menor inlet is on a coastline where the year-round temperature never drops below 20C, and rises to a humid 30C plus during the summer months. There is plenty of opportunity to indulge a passion for water sports in this part of the region, as well as delighting in the sheer spotlessness of the beaches and oceans, which are some of the cleanest in Europe.

Fishing Villages and Stunning Coastlines

A company like National car hire provides some good options for renting a car here, though you can also find most of the best known companies locally. Having access to a car also opens up the possibility of visiting the working fishing village of Cabo de Palos, located close to the port city of Cartagena. The coastline here becomes rockier, with some dramatic cliff views to enjoy. Watching the fishing boats ply their traditional trade is interesting at Cabo de Palos, and there are some superb restaurants in which diners can enjoy the local catch.

As with many southern European countries, festivals remain very important to the people of the Murcia region. As well as the festivals which are centred on religion, produce and local saints, there are also international music festivals to enjoy. The Holy Week procession in the city of Murcia is also well worth taking in during any stay in the region.

A short drive away from Cartagena is the Calblanque Regional Park, a coastal areas which offers plenty of little roads to explore by car. Having a car also means that visitors can access some of the nicest beaches and finest coastal scenery in the whole of the Murcia region. When coupled with the great light which is found here, a result of the almost permanent sunshine, it makes for a great day trip destination.

City of Murcia

If you prefer a more urban exploring experience, then your hire car can also take you into the city of Murcia itself. The city’s Cathedral, which dates back to the 14th century, is a stunning building, constructed in the Castillian Gothic style. The Glorieta is the city’s main square, and is located on the banks of the Segura River. You should be aware, though, that the city centre is largely pedestrianised, so motorists may be better served parking on Murcia’s outskirts and using public transport to reach the city centre.

The Costa Calida is wonderful, summery spot for a holiday. If you enjoy sun and sea, then make a point of renting a car when you visit. It places a whole host of wonderful sights and sounds within easy reach.
