‘How I abandoned entertainment for honey business’
In order to eradicate poverty in our society, a renowned poet, Sesan Adewusi a.k.a Baba Oloyin Original has come up with an idea of empowering enterprising youths to better their future on plantation of herbs.
Sesan Adewusi, a stage actor, a broadcaster and an Ewi Poet ventured into honey business some years back and has made several discoveries on how herbs and honey could be of great use to man.
In his word, “I could remember when I was seriously into poetry, as a poet then; I did several albums titled ‘Idaamu Tenanti’, ‘Asiko Yoruba’, ‘Asiko Eda’, ‘Idaamu Yoruba’, ‘Omo mi gbo t’emi’ and others. Despite my versatility in it, the profession hardly put food on my table until I stumbled on book titled ‘You could become a million through Honey’. Curiosity made me pick this book, I worked on it and I discovered that with the sales of good honey, surely one can become rich’.
“Though frustrated having practised Ewi poetry for 20 years and to my credit, I had eight albums, but it couldn’t put food on my table. In 1999, I discovered how one can become rich through the sales of honey, not just any honey but original ones. I went into the business with serious research on how one can use herbs and honey to cure different ailments.”
In his reaction to his recent publicized seminar on herbal plants, this great poet explained thus, “In our society today, university and other tertiary institutions turn out graduates en-masse; meanwhile, integrating these fresh graduates into the labour market becomes a serious issue. The only way out of this doldrum is becoming self employed with little capital.
“In our bid to make life meaningful for our youths, especially graduates that have no single means of livelihood, I am into organizing seminars on bee keeping. There are great demands for honey here in Nigeria and in the Diaspora. Also, we teach people on how to plant six different herbal plants that are of great benefit to human beings.
“Dropping music for honey and research on the use of plants and other herbal medicine is one great decision I had to take when life was becoming meaningless. The decision was harsh, hard and fear of unknown almost made me think otherwise, but yet I took it and the story today is great. ”
How he came about Moringa Aloifera, one of the plants he trains people on, he said, it was introduced to me by a friend in Ghana. This plant moringa Oleifera has several health benefits, that is one of the reasons why it is named the “Miracle Tree” and the “Tree of Life” in many cultures. People benefit from Moringa Oleifera both in terms of prevention and healing. Moringa Oleifera is nutritious, natural and energizing.”
He explained further that, “These are some of the uses of Moringa Oleifera Moringa. It is good for Diabetes Relief; Healthy Skin; Nutrition; it improves sensory perception, help to sleep better and decrease depression and anxiety and many more.
“It contains four times the vitamin A available in carrots. Seven times the vitamin C in oranges. Four times the Calcium available in milk. Twice the protein in milk and three times the Potassium in bananas.”
Sesan Adewusi, a retired staff of NIPOST said, “Though I am not a millionaire yet, I am one of those who are comfortable in Nigeria today with what I earn through what nature has bestowed us in our society.”
Besides his albums, he has written different books on honey, one of them is 50 ways on the usage of honey and others.

NOLLYWOOD: WHERE ARE THE IGBO? FROM THE PRESIDENT IGBO FILM FORUM NOLLYWOOOD announcing de 3rd edition of IGBO FILM FESTIVAL in Lagos 2013
The impact of culture, which is defined as a people’s way of life,
cannot be separated from everyday human existence. This is because
every race and society is shaped by norms, beliefs, values and symbols
which are part of their socio-cultural patterns.
The Nigerian movie industry otherwise known as Nollywood has registered
its presence on the world stage with an assertiveness that cannot
be ignored. Central to its evolutionary process is the initiative taken
by producer of Igbo extraction in pioneering an industry that
paradoxically evolved in response to a harsh national socio-economic
condition. Nollywood certainly ranks as one of the highest in
production in the world, and regarded as the second largest film
industry in the world after the Indian Bollywood industry.
In Nollywood, other ethnic cities are using the medium to promote
language, preserve and propagate their cultures while the
pioneers (the Igbo) are unrepentantly silent. The Igbo Nation has an
enviable cultural heritage which dates back to its origin more than six
thousand years ago. It encompasses the various customs, practices and
tradition of the Igbo. Nollywood serves as electronic database for the
preservation and propagation of language and culture. But sadly, Igbo
in Nollywood pay deaf to their language and culture which is being
eroded. We need to arrest this very ugly situation urgently because a
“stitch in time saves nine”. The sure way of ensuring the survival
of Igbo language is to produce more of films in our dialects and active
promotion of Igbo cultural heritage. The task is urgent and immediate
all the same.
A historic event is about to take place in Lagos /September28th 2013/
the first ever Ndigbo in Nollywood New Yam Festival and the launching
of 50millionfund raising for the establishment of Igbo in Nollywood
cultural center.
This epoch making event is being organized by IGBO FILM FORUM, a
socio-cultural organization charged with the mandate of
promoting, preserving and propagating Igbo culture using Nollywood
screen as a veritable medium, under the able leadership of HIS
HIGHNESS CHIEF (DR.) HARRIS CHUMA, the CUSTODIAN and PROMOTER of IGBO
CAUSE and CULTURE.” EZE OMENANI IGBO NA NOLLYWOOD”, popularly referred
to as OGENE NDIGBO.
