LG Electronics has brought the king of its V series of smartphones. Called as the V20 the smartphone boasts new features like Steady Record 2.0, Hi-Fi Quad DAC, HD Audio Recorder and front and rear wide-angle lens cameras. It happens to be the world’s first smartphone to come preloaded with Android 7.0 Nougat OS and the new Google In Apps phone search function. The maker claims that the V20 can deliver best-in-class performance.
This premium flagship smartphone – LG V20, is built with lightweight aluminium and a new silicon-based material. The back cover is crafted out of AL6013 metal, found in aircraft, sailboats, and mountain bikes. The top and bottom of the phone are protected by Silicone Polycarbonate (Si-PC). The LG V20 has also passed the MIL-STD 810G Transit Drop Test for durability conducted by an independent laboratory that conforms to U.S. military standards. On the front is a 5.7 inch QuadHD (2k) IPS Quantum Display with 513 ppi pixel density. Like the V10, the V20 gets a secondary display as well but this time and improved one. The smaller display is located above the main display.LG has doubled the brightness of the screen and it displays 50 percent larger font size compared to the V10.
Powered the LG V20 is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with X12 LTE and Adreno 530 GPU. The smartphone gets 4GB LPDDR4 of RAM, 64GB of UFS ROM that supports expansion up to 2TB via microSD card. As mentioned earlier, the LG V20 is the first smartphone to come with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box! The OS comes with LG UX 5.0+ on top. Speaking of the primary shooter, the LG V20 gets a dual camera unit with an 8MP and a 16MP module. The 8MP unit gets a 135-degree lens and 75-degree lens is fitted to the 16MP unit. On the front is a 5MP front camera with a 120-degree lens that helps to capture larger selfies.
The V20’s Hybrid Auto Focus (HAF) integrates three AF mechanisms – Laser Detection AF, Phase Detection AF and Contrast AF – for both videos and photos. The camera unit is also assisted by Steady Record 2.0 that uses Qualcomm’s electronic image stabilization (EIS) 3.0. This EIS is complemented by digital image stabilization (DIS) which further improves video quality in post-processing.For audio recording capabilities on videos, the LG V20 gets manual controls such as Low Cut Filter (LCF) background noise and Limiter (LMT) The V20 also captures audio using Linear Pulse Code Modulation (LPCM), the same format used in professional video equipment. It is also claimed to be the world’s first smartphone to feature a 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC, powered by ESS Technology. The Quad DAC tech helps to deliver clearer sound by minimizing distortion and ambient noise. LG continues its collaboration with B&O PLAY.
The LG V20 is the world’s first phone to showcase Google’s In Apps. The new search mode featured in the Google app, helps users find content not only from built-in apps including contacts, emails, text messages and photos, but also from user-installed apps. The LG V20 will be available in Korea starting this month followed by other regions. Information regarding other markets and launch dates will be announced locally in the weeks to come.
