Buying college textbooks. You know, it’s been almost 30 years, but some experiences just stick with you, and that’s one.

I vividly recall pulling out a small paperback, only to wilt when seeing it cost $20 — and this was in the mid ’80s! I had a Shakespeare book that was near $100. I’ll soon be re-living this experience, albeit second-hand, as my oldest daughter starts college in about 18 months. I’m so glad to know that there are new options out there — one of the best being Campus Book Rentals.

Why should you consider renting your college textbooks through Campus Book Rentals?

- You’ll save 40-90% off of bookstore prices

- They offer free shipping both ways

- You can highlight in the textbooks

- They offer flexible renting periods

- They “give back” with each textbook rented, making a donation to Operation Smile (a charity that pays to correct cleft palates and other facial deformities). Doing good while you rent books — what a great concept!

Here’s a short video describing the process.

CampusBookRentals.com also has a new program, RentBack. RentBack allows students to rent the textbooks they own to other students. This is a winning idea, because it makes them two to four times more money than they’d make through buyback options! (selling their books back at the end of the semester). I would have been all over this when I was in college — I remember the sad feelings I’d get when, after standing in line with my books at the end of the semester, I’d be offered maybe $50 for the books I’d paid $600 for just months earlier.

Check out how RentBack works here.
