I think by now everyone has heard of The Dukan Diet, Weight Loss Plan. For those of you that have not, here is a quick summary of how the diet works.
The Dukan Diet is a physician-formulated lifestyle weight-loss program consisting of 4 phases to reach and keep your True Weight for life. The diet discards counting calories, and instead emphasizes lean protein, plentiful amounts of water, daily walking and allows unrestricted amounts of 100 healthy foods. The Dukan Diet is designed to help its members overcome common pitfalls and achieve healthy, lifelong weight management.
There are four phases of this diet:
Attack Phase: Only very lean veal, beef, chicken (skinless) and turkey (skinless), fish and shellfish, eggs, fat-free dairy products are allowed. Greek yogurt with 0 percent fat and plain yogurt are considered great choices for dairy. Tons of fresh water is also required. This phase should not be followed for longer than 10 days.
Cruise Phase: Alternating in five-day cycles, you cycle back and forth between eating protein and non-starchy vegetables and eating only protein. No butter or oil can be used and tons of fresh water is required. Follow this phase until your goal weight is attained.
Consolidation Phase: One serving of fruit, two slices of whole wheat bread and 1.5 ounces of cheese is allowed each day. Two times each week, you are allowed to eat two 5-ounce servings of starch, like potatoes, rice or another grain. Protein is also a mainstay. In addition, two times a week, you can eat a cheat meal including wine and dessert. But the day after these cheat meals, you can only consume protein. The Stabilization phase is done for the number of days that equals four days for every half-pound lost.
Stabilization: Normal eating is resumed with one day a week devoted to consuming only protein.
I was introduced to The Dukan Diet.com – a physician-formulated lifestyle weight-loss program with on line coaching.
I found the whole introduction to the site, really easy to navigate. The first step is to answer an on-line survey so the weight loss coaching staff can get a feel as what your True Weight should be. NOT your goal weight, which was different for me. Who knew? You also key in your weight and other measurement to help the staff keep track of your progress. Here is some more information about the program.
Each person’s True Weight is unique and based on answers to a few short questions. Once you are logged in, you get your very own ‘slimming apartment’. In this very nifty place, there is my kitchen, my lounge , my gym, my bathroom, and my secret corner.
Your personal slimming apartment just for you.
Each tab has even more options. Lets look at ‘my kitchen’ tab:
You can see the other options in my kitchen tab. The picture that is shown is My recipe Book. There are tons of recipes depending on which stage you are on. This is not like your typical low carb weight loss plan at all.
So I was ready to get started!
Everyday I was sent an email saying that my instructions for the day were ready. Once you access your account, you will be told what day you are having, food instruction, motivation needs and exercise that should be accomplished. I found these emails very motivating on their own and I felt really did not need to think about the diet too much. Plus in these emails were different recipes to choose from and each one included a dessert.
At the end of the day, you email how your day went by filling out a very short questionnaire so the coaching could see if there are any struggles to help you with so you can move on to your weight loss goals. It was all about checking in every day. If you go off track, you have to report it. That’s why the online coaching as so great, and you didn’t have to go to any center to report, you just did it online. That’s a great feature. That whole support system of your coach and the e-mails and the forum is really invaluable and helpful.
If you needed additional help or had any questions about just about anything, The Dukan Diet team was standing by. You could email them at any time and you would get a response back within 24 hours by a personal coach.
I did find the attack phase a bit challenging but once I got to add vegetables, it was much easier. I also loved that the first phase you were allowed to have Oat Bran. This made menu planning much easier.
And – at less than $1 a day – Dukan Diet Coaching costs less than any other online diet program. The coaching is included so it’s almost like having a personal nutritionist with you are all times. And, this one is working for me!
The DukanDiet.com recommends buying the book as an aid for this program and so do I. This really helped me get started on the program and to become a try believer in Dr. Pierre Dukan’s research.
If you are looking at losing some weight, I highly recommend this on-line diet. I can’t think of one that is any easier. I really can’t. But you MUST stick with the program and if you have any struggles at all, use the on-line coaching and they will get you to the weight you want to be.
