As a working mom, my weekends are spent cramming in as much quality time as I can with my kid. Our norm is Target runs, loitering Barnes and Noble, and walking to the neighborhood parks, but sometimes I like to spice things up and take Aidan to somewhere more exciting. In the last 1-2 years, I’ve discovered a handful of places in Sacramento that are perfect for entertaining small kids. BONUS: Aidan has loved them all! Here are some ideas for fun places to take your kid in Sacramento:

The Sacramento Zoo

A classic kid-friendly place in Sacramento to visit when the weather’s nice and you want your kid to run some energy out. One fun animal activity they have there is feeding the giraffes. Check out their special events calendar to find educational programs and themed days that are included with admission!

The Sacramento Children’s Museum

I love this place because there’s a wide variety of activities here for kids of all ages. There’s an art room, water tables, train tables, an area for pretend play, and even an area for babies to play! Great option for when the weather is bad and you’re all itching to get out of the house.

The California State Railroad Museum

If your kid loves trains like mine, then this place is a must! This museum consists of restored train engines and cars that kids can explore. There’s also a playroom on the third floor with tons of train tables to play with. Before you leave, you can grab a train-themed souvenir from the gift shop.

Fairytale Town

Another fun outdoor option and it also happens to be across the street from the zoo. This place is basically a giant playground with fairytale-themed slides and play structures for kids to play on. If your kid doesn’t nap anymore, you can make a day of it and do the zoo in the morning, grab lunch somewhere close by, and then hit up Fairytale Town afterward.
