The Hollywood Foreign Press announced the nominees for the 2015 Golden Globe Awards yesterday.   The 72nd Golden Globes, which honor work in film and television, will be broadcast live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel’s Grand Ballroom on Jan. 11 at 8PM EST.

The Golden Globe nominations (and the winners) are chosen by the members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, a nonprofit organization comprised of fewer than 100 journalists for international publications who are based in the L.A. area.

The announcement of the nominees in the 25 categories was made by Kate Beckinsale, Jeremy Piven, Peter Krause and Paula Patton.

Films with multiple nominations include Birdman, The Grand Budapest Hotel and Selma – all of whom got nominations for Best Picture, Director and Actor (the first two also added screenplay nominations).  These three have now all become front runners for Oscar Nominations.

Surprises in the Movie categories include:

Both Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper and Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken not getting a single nomination.

Nightcrawler‘s Jake Gyllenhaal and Cake‘s Jennifer Aniston’s somewhat surprising Screen Actor’s Guild nominations no longer seem as shocking after both were nominated for Golden Globes.

Gone Girl was left out of the Best Picture race, but was nominated for Best Director (David Fincher) and Best Actress (Rosamund Pike).

Julianne Moore landed Best Actress nominations in both the Drama (Still Alice) and Musical or Comedy (Maps to the Stars) categories.

Quvenzhané Wallis got a Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy nomination for Annie.

Interstellar only getting nominated for Best Score.

TV surprises include:

Amazon getting a pair of nominations for it’s latest streaming show Transparent

Showtime’s The Affair getting three nominations

The CW’s Jane the Virgin getting two nominations
