The Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center, Inc., d.b.a., Minnie Hamilton Health System (MHHS) Advised Fund has been established at Our Community’s Foundation - Little Kanawha Area Community Foundation affiliate. The fund was established by the MHHS Board of Directors to serve as a permanent fund to provide long term support for the health care agency and public health care needs of Calhoun, Gilmer, Wirt, and surrounding counties.

“Minnie Hamilton’s leadership team was happy to establish this endowed support fund at the community foundation. I value LKACF’s professional services and know that they will be excellent stewards for our fund so it can provide long term support for improvements, new programs, and growth at MHHS. It is our hope, that the community will embrace this fund and help it grow over the next few years so it can provide substantial annual earnings to support our continual efforts to improve our facilities, services, and medical care for the residents of the Little Kanawha area,“ commented Steve Whited, MHHS CEO.

MHHS is a Critical Access Hospital that operates a rural health center in Grantsville; a federally qualified health center in Glenville; and school based health clinics for Calhoun and Gilmer County Schools, as well as for Glenville State College and Calhoun-Gilmer Career Center. MHHS was named for Minnie B. Hamilton (1900-1981), a native of Calhoun County who tirelessly served her community as the Public Health Nurse for more than thirty years. In 1985, when a new primary care facility was opened in Grantsville, it was named Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center, Inc. in her honor. During late 1995 and early 1996, when Calhoun General Hospital was nearing closure, the directors of MHHS elected to incorporate the hospital building and its operations into their services. MHHS has grown over the years to include a 24- bed long-term care unit, dental clinic, child day-care services, emergency medical services (911) for Calhoun County, ambulance transport services, outreach programs, social services, hospital ancillary services including radiology, laboratory, physical therapy, emergency department, and cardiopulmonary. MHHS contributes significantly to the area’s economic health and the estimated total annual economic impact for 2013 was over $22 million.

“The MHHS Board of Directors should be commended for their strategic objective in establishing a permanent support fund for the Minnie Hamilton Health Care System. This fund will grow over time to forever support the Minnie Hamilton facilities and the health care needs of Calhoun, Wirt and Gilmer counties - providing support during our life time and those of future generations,“ commented Jane Winters, Our Community’s Foundation Regional Affiliates Manager.
