The Glenville State Pioneer football team suffered a tough road loss to the University of Charleston on a gloomy Saturday afternoon at UC Stadium, 10-17.

The Pioneers got down early in the game as the University of Charleston jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the second quarter.

Charleston got the lead as C.J. Stallworth scored on a 46 yard touchdown run in the first quarter and then in the second Torie Wagner scored on a 37 yard punt return.

However the Pioneers would get on the board as freshman kicker Josh Brown hit a 36 yard field goal as GSC went into halftime down, 14-3.

In the third quarter the Pioneers would get a big play out of Quin Thornton as he would take the opening kickoff 92 yards to pay dirt as the G men pulled with four, 14-10.

But in the fourth Charleston would add a field goal as they would take a 17-10 lead.

The Pioneers defense would force a punt but the GSC offense would only have 13 seconds to try and tie it up. On a first and ten, quarterback Sean Steele would go for the hailmary but it would be picked off as UC held onto the victory over Glenville, 17-10.

GSC only committed three penalties for 20 yards while UC committed seven for 41 yards.

The Pioneers were also only one for three in the redzone.

Freshman quarterback Sean Steele went 21 for 40 for 122 yards and had three interceptions. Delvon Purvis was his favorite target as he caught eight passes for 81 yards.

Defensive end Gary Henderson had a great game as he had nine tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and an interception.

The Pioneers return to action Saturday when they return home to Morris Stadium with a matchup with UVa-Wise. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM.

UVa-Wise is coming off a 42-17 loss to Shepherd.
