Happy mid-week people!

Before I flew off to Japan, YX and I had the privilege to be invited by Nunsongyee Korean Dessert Cafe for a bingsu tasting. It marked our first bingsu date together! :)

Nunsongyee is known for their wide variety of bingsu flavours and their use of authentic ingredients, majority of which are imported directly from Korea. I read that the recipes in this cafe have traditional origins and were passed down from the founder's grandmother. Talk about old school!

Nunsongyee Korean Dessert Cafe has 5 outlets, namely at Upper Thomson, Tanjong Katong, Bukit Timah, Century Square and Bugis. We visited the Bukit Timah outlet for our bingsu fix after having a pancake dinner nearby at Nook Cafe & Bar.

Bukit Timah may be secluded and out of the way but thanks to Beauty World MRT Station, this dessert cafe is now merely a short walking distance away.

Looking at the menu left me spoilt for choice because of the extensive number of bingsu flavours to select from.

I also realized that the cafe doesn't only sell bingsu; they also sell Korean Rice Cakes and Signature Toasts which looked very tantalizing as well. If I have the opportunity to visit this cafe again, I'm definitely trying the other desserts!

With a minimalistic design and a cosy ambience, this dessert cafe seemed to be a place for everyone.

In my 1 hour of time in there, I observed that there were different types of customers streaming in every now and then. There would be a family sitting at a corner feeding bingsu to their kids; the lone ranger having his quiet time by himself; the couples aka YX and me sharing a bowl of bingsu and the group of students playing cards while eating bingsu at the same time.

I supposed the cafe was actually pretty popular for its location. Interestingly, while the cafe might be busy, it was never too crowded, making it a very comfortable place for chilling.

Prior to visiting the cafe, I checked out its Facebook page and saw that they have a flavour exclusive to its Bukit Timah outlet so I decided to go straight for.... the Premium Green Tea Bingsu ($18.90).

Verdict?

FABULOUS.

We loved the matcha ice-cream and the generous amount of ingredients atop the shaved ice. It was tasty yet not overwhelmingly sweet so it felt just right for my tastebuds.

The portion was a bit big for us though and I really had no idea how other customers were able to wipe out an entire bowl of premium bingsu by themselves. I guessed YX and I are smaller eaters after all so if you're like us, share your bingsu! It tastes better that way too.

Thank you Nunsongyee Korean Dessert Cafe for hosting us! We love your bingsu and we'll certainly check out the other outlets for more!
