I've now tried five different brands of nickel-plated strings on my Les Paul Standard. I would conclude the Fender 250s, the GHS Boomers, and the D'addarios all sound good on my new axe.
The Ernie Ball Slinky's sounded good too but I most likely will not use them due to tonal longevity considerations.
The DR Hi-Beams sounded bright and edgy like the company said they would but what I didn't like was they sounded kinda hard and cold. I had lost some of the sweetness that the other strings had. Maybe you have to sacrifice sweetness for a really bright tone.
