Nana Aba Anamoah

I have read comments on stories like this one, where people condemned writers for ‘picking on’ celebrities; especially, on the issue of marriage.

In as much as I, somewhat, understand such comments, the context in which most of these stories are composed should be considered.

In an African setting, marriage is very important and plays an integral part of the formation of society. A person who marries is usually placed in ‘respected’ and so-called ‘responsible’ class of people in our fold, irrespective of their age or years in marriage.

In fact, young married people are gaining much respect than aging bachelors and spinsters; all because of the image attached to marriage.

For celebrities, the expectation is even higher, considering the role they play in today’s society. They reflect and sometimes define the moral, cultural and daily happenings in our setting.

Beyond these, celebrities have become indispensable part of the society because, they have inevitably assumed role model status in our setting.

Young and adults, naïve and experienced look up to celebrities to define what they (mentees) should think, perceive things, wear and speak on issues that happen in their daily lives.

Given the prestige accorded to marriage, it is believed that a married celebrity would be in a better position to positively impact on her audience.

Theseare the logical and moral reasons why people like you and I need to know whether the people we watch, listen to and follow are married or not.

Popular excuses

Celebrities who have not liked stories like this say we should give them a break and stop ‘intruding on their privacy’. That assertion is quite interesting and convenient, to say the least. First of all, I think most of these hot stars have forgotten or do not know the philosophy behind their job. They are oblivious of the fact that their job is to ‘mirror society’ – that is reflect the good and bad of society, and not only that, they must show us the right way to go.

Reflecting the good and bad of society, for me, fundamentally amounts to intruding on the privacy of society, but that is not the subject discussion here.

Again the very fact that they have become role models for our children and siblings implies that if we realise that any aspect of their lives has the tendency to influence the kind of lessons they put out there, we have every reason to investigate that aspect of their lives.

They have every right to insist on their privacy but just as the Americans would say, ‘if you can’t take the heat then leave the kitchen’. The choice is theirs.

Other celebrities and their sycophantic fans have said the reason why they have delayed in marrying is because they want to meet their set targets in career and finances. Well, they should tell this to kids and naïve people.

Ironically, most of the celebrities who give this popular excuse are the very people who are on the rich list of Ghanaian celebrities. They own houses, cars, pubs, restaurants, boutiques, to mention a few.

The question is: what are they waiting for? Are they just not interested in married life or is there some hidden joy in being single that the outside world does not know? Of course I ask these questions bearing in mind the setting earlier mentioned.

These celebrities have distinguished themselves in their own unique endeavours and have not only made a mark for themselves but blazed the trail for their aficionados.

Below are a few of the A-List Ghanaian celebrities who are still single:

Joselyn Dumas

Joselyn Canfor Dumas, born on 31 August 1980, is a Ghanaian TV presenter and actress. She was picked as the 2012 face of the Range Rover Evoque in Ghana. She has won multiple awards, including 2010/2011 TV Personality of the Year and was judged the hottest Ghanaian celebrity in 2012 by 4syte TV.

She starred in Adams Apples and A Sting in a Tale, 2011 and 2009 respectively.

Despite her many successes, the screen goddess is yet to outdoor her official man to her fans, the industry and Ghana.

Confidence Haugen

Despite being the CEO and Owner of one of Ghana’s hottest night clubs in Accra, Aphrodisiac Night Club, Confidence Haugen, aged 37, though she has a son, is still single. The socialite and business woman who has been associated with the likes of Ayigbe Edem (in a love affair turned sour) lost her mother in July this year.

Rumours are rife that she has her eyes set on dancehall sensation, Shata Wale.

Deloris Frimpong

Known for her controversial statements and sexual innuendos, Deloris Frimpong aka ‘Delay’, a socialite and business woman has carved a niche for herself in the entertainment industry.

With her hit television series, ‘Afia Schwarzenegger’ making the waves, the radio and television personality is yet to tie the knot. As to how soon, that is a headline for another day.

Jessica Saforo

As one of the hottest radio and television personalities in the country, the ‘Brunch In The Citi’ host has everything under her belt but a man.

Though she has a lot of awards to her credit, she is yet to win the most coveted award for personalities at the peak of their career; a crime.

Nana Aba Anamoah

Touted as one of the hottest television personalities to grace the Ghanaian scene, Nana Aba Anamoah seems to have everything going for her but a man.

Not many people are aware that award-winning news anchor for TV3 and hostess of Divas Show Nana Aba Anamoah has a son who will soon be entering his teens.

Yes, she does have a son; a handsome intelligent young boy whose father, reports say, is an Accra-based businessman in his late 30s.

The petite news anchor revealed that when she was pregnant with the boy, thoughts of abortion crossed her mind and she would have actually gotten rid of the pregnancy but for the fear of death.

‘Yes. But each time I tried, I thought about death. Thank god for all the scary stories about abortion,’ Nana Aba said in an interview.

But when she was asked who the boy’s father was, Nana Aba said she would ‘like to avoid the subject’.

Nana Aba is yet to tie the knot.

Sarkodie

Known for his iconic statement ‘money no be problem’ the ‘biggest thing’ in Ghanaian hip hop indeed has no problems with money.

With his lucrative deals with Fan Milk and Samsung, money and fame is definitely not the reason why the ‘rapperholic’ star is single.

Despite his brags about his ‘sexcapades’ in some of his songs, Obidi has always made reference to music as his love with no signs of a real relationship or marriage anywhere in sight.

John Dumelo

For having one of the finest faces on screen (according to the ladies), John has been known for his play boy roles in movies (and perhaps in real life). Having been associated with various webs of love controversies (despite having many women at his feet), it is still a big of a mystery why the young actor is still single.

He has been accused on several occasions for defrauding rich women with the promise of marriage (all of which he has denied). With fame, money and women all around him, only John can better explain why he is still a very eligible bachelor.

Benny Blanco

The Vodafone Icon presenter is undoubtedly one of the most sought after bachelors in the country. Just like all his other male counterparts, money and social class is not the problem.

The radio and television personality has a lot of females going crazy but is yet to pick a suitor who would complement him.

Chris Attoh

Voted the Sexiest Male Celebrity in Ghana, Chris Attoh, despite all his sexiness, is yet to settle down.

The Tinsel actor and television personality has hosted many prestigious events such as Ghana Music Awards, Stars of the Future and many others.

He’s hot, sexy, suave and single.

R2Bees

As hot as the GMA artistes of the year are, they are single. With uncountable hit singles and ladies screaming out their names at events, Mugeez and Paedae are still single.

To be honest, not much has been heard of the duo’s love lives. All they seem to be interested in is chasing ‘paper’ (probably characteristic of their name.)

Undoubtedly, R2Bees are one of the most sought after groups not just in Ghana but beyond our shores (with all the money to spend), yet just like all the others, they are also far from the marriage and family life.

In all these, one thing is obviously clear; money is not a problem. These celebrities have achieved what a few even dream of, yet they have still not achieved the ultimate pedestal (from society’s point of view).

They are rich, they are suave, they are famous and they are single.
