Welcome to the ongoing Animal Crossing: New Leaf adventures of the GGS Gamer crew! This is a game for the long haul, and we’re going to show off our towns and collections and anything else we can find every week! If you’d like to visit our towns, check out the code list at the bottom of the page, and please post your own New Leaf stories in comments!

The above picture shows Sable handing me a mannequin. A mannequin!

The mannequin is a super-useful item. It’s a black, Villager-sized doll that can wear a full assortment of clothes: hat, glasses, shirt, pants. Maybe even shoes and socks, too? Anyway, even though you can see mannequins in other folks’ StreetPass houses, you cannot order them. Getting friendly with Sable so that she just outright gives you one is one of the only ways to score one.

And then, sheesh, imagine how this can clean up on clutter and those stupid hat head models that are all over your main room.

Isn’t that just awful? You spend 3000+ bells on a piece of fine art at Crazy Redd’s, you wait a day for it to be delivered, you take it to Blathers to be appraised… and it’s a fake. Well, I’m not longer annoyed by this. I want the fakes.

As one of my museum exhibit rooms, I’m putting together a Fake Museum. You see, the fake paintings and sculptures actually are subtly physically different, so if you know enough about art, you can identify a fake BEFORE you buy it! And since they’re different, I’m putting them on display in the seedier, second floor portion of the Adamsvil Museum.

If you have fakes, LET ME KNOW.

Here’s the pic I’m using for the entryway image for this exhibit:

And as the final image for this week’s Mayor Joe update, I’ll post this love-filled picture taken at Nintendo’s USA Dream Village (Dream Address: 5700-2038-6151)

I used the Dream Suite once. I was depressed that I couldn’t bring home all the Perfect Oranges I’d collected, but…it makes sense. I updated my town’s dream once, for 5,000 Bells. If that’s always the prize, I should be doing that more often!

To be fair, though, I was slacking on my town a bit last week. I was busy and lazy, and my villagers kept telling me to stop playing and get some sleep, so…I just kind of haven’t played as diligently as in previous weeks.

One interesting observation I can add from this egregious display of poor mayorship is that my real life mood has been pretty dour and anti-social recently, and it totally translated to how I was playing the game.

I wasn’t interesting in being buddy-buddy and having silly fun, so I avoided Best Friends when they were online save for one special occasion – when Katie visited Coffee and requested that I take her on a train ride to see a friend’s town.

So, I visited Fourhman’s town, dropped her off, then pretty much did a lap and headed home.

Anyone else find this to be true? I know last week, I enjoyed an online play session or two with a friend who was having a really rough few real life days. She was using Animal Crossing as an escape. We all deal with stress in different ways, but I think there’s something to the idea that your actual mood and personality completely affect how, why, when and if you play New Leaf.

It’s its own little, living world. There are personalities. Your actual friends are usually there, waiting to drop by your town or invite you in for some lighthearted net tag or a trip to the island.

When you’re not feeling people in real life, your tiny mayor avatar may not be much of a people person either!

Coffee does have a Shampoodle salon, now. Which is cool. I’ve long wanted my Mii mask, though I’ll totally switch back to my ugly, stock Animal Crossing Villager face when I want to wear, like, snow hats in the winter or something. Mine isn’t actually all that bad, anyway. Good hair, and the glasses make it passably “me.”

Still, glad to finally have the Mii Tony option!

And, yes, that is a custom-made GGSGamer.com tee. Available at Able Sisters Coffee. Better one may become available if I ever figure out this damn QR code sewing machine nonsense. Just don’t get it.

My son has been playing like crazy, too. He loves the game. Loves decorating his house, buying new clothes, hunting for fossils, etc. He just got access to the island. He caught a scorpion the other day. He paid off his first mortgage and expanded his house. He bought a new door and pavers from Tom Nook.

A natural. His dream now? To become a barista when we get our coffee shop.

“Well, you have a job because you’re the mayor. So maybe my job can be working a the coffee shop?” he suggested.

Sling mud till your little heart’s content, my boy. Daddy will be bringing Brewster to town the second this Reset Center is paid off (I’m about $26,000 away, so that’s probably going to be done on my commute home).

Also, I had my first boss fight.

She was tough, but I managed to defeat her. Massive EXP and Bells!

That’s my rant! Peter? How’s Wallasey this week?

Upgraded my shovel and fishing rod to silver and now they sparkle whenever I hold them which makes me feel rather flashy. Also the shovel can provide gem rocks out of the money rocks and fish now stay hooked just that little bit longer. It’s all about making those bells!

I really need to start visiting other towns. People who live in my town are great in their own way. New addition Kyle is a bit of a rocker, leather jacket and all but, well, I visited the newly opened Club LOL the other night and . . .

I was listening to Billy Idol’s Dancing to Myself ALL NIGHT! With no tequila bar in Animal Crossing it got a little lonesome on the dance floor before too long. The lighthouse was completed today though so maybe more party animals will be attracted by the lights? I visited the fortune teller to see if my luck would change but I think she just insulted my Mayoral skills and told me I would find more fortune if I wore women’s clothes. I’m wearing Samus’ Varia Suit so I think that counts.

My only successful use of Dream Suite has also been to visit Nintendo Town wherein I found this:

Somebody tell me how I can remake this in my town, museum or house please!

I, too, have been slacking somewhat. Now Vixville is boasting three bridges, a clock, a bench, a campsite, a cafe, a museum extension, Shampoodle, it’s like … WHAT’S NEXT?

It’s maddeningly addictive, though, and I’ve still yet to go an entire day without jumping in, even if it’s just to check the shop and shake a few trees. I’ve clocked up eighty hours so far – meaning I’ve sunk more time into ACNL than I have Mass Effect 2 and 3 combined – and at one point had half a mil secreted away in my savings account.

I don’t anymore.

I’ve extended the BEJESUS out of my house. Seriously. Cost aside (498k bells for an extra few feet in the bedroom? Seriously, Nook?!), it’s exciting to have more space to lay out your wares, and I’ve enjoyed seeking out my furniture ranges of choice (modern wood; minimalist; blue) and kitting out my spare bedroom and work-at-home office.

I wish there was an easier way to locate furniture, though. I’d save up and pay mega bells for the range I want, and it frustrates me that I can’t do that.

Also. Some of the wallpaper and flooring ranges? UGMO OR WHAT?

I’ve not successfully used my dream suite yet, either. I kept getting an error when I try, rage quit, and haven’t tried since. It is worth a gander? Same for the code/sewing machine thing. It doesn’t interest me, but I do wonder if I’m missing out …

I’ll close on reminding other ACNL n00bs like myself to ensure that they take evening trips to the island. Not only is the music deeply soothing, you’ll get your pick of the island’s bug life. Pick up a Golden or Rainbow Stag Beetle and reap the benefits, my friends!

Oh, and if you see Katie, punch her for me please. SHE STOLE MY WATERING CAN AND I HAVEN’T FOUND A REPLACEMENT SINCE.
