Now that we’ve looked at the two most popular social media websites (read the posts here and here), I’m going to introduce you to ads on Twitter. It is a new feature that can help you build up your mailing lists with ease.

.

.

Get Your Squeeze Page & UTM Parameters Set

As mentioned in the LinkedIn and Facebook Ads post, the best way to capitalize on your advertising dollars to build a mailing list is by having a squeeze page (i.e. a page whose call to action is an opt-in form) with a great giveaway that interests your target audience. To track it in Google Analytics, use the URL Builder to append UTM parameters to your squeeze page URL like this.

.

Until Twitter rolls out their ad type specific to lead generation for everyone, you can use the following steps to set up a Promoted Tweet to build your mailing list.

.

Promoted Tweets

Promoted Tweets is a form of Twitter Ads that lets you promote one or more of your tweets. To advertise your squeeze page, simply tweet it out, preferably with a message enticing people to check out your free giveaway.

.

.

Next, visit Twitter Ads and sign in with your regular Twitter username and password. If it’s your first time using Twitter Ads, you may need to sign up in the Twitter for Business section first.

.

The first thing you will do is set up targeting options for your ad. You can target your audience by location and by interest. To target by interest, you can enter usernames of people on Twitter whose audiences are similar to yours, such as your competitors or other similar companies.

.

.

You can also enter interests by keywords or by browsing interest categories.

.

.

Next, you will select the tweet(s) that you want to promote in the Promoted Tweets section.

.

.

Then, in the Budget and Bid section, you will set your daily budget and per interaction amount as suggested by Twitter. You will be charged your bid amount when someone engages by clicking on the link, retweeting, replying, or favoriting the promoted tweet.

.

.

Once you’ve entered your payment, your ad will run based on your daily budget. Since Twitter doesn’t allow you to set an end date for your ad, you will need to remember to come in and turn it off when you’re finished with your campaign.

.

Lead Generation Card

As mentioned earlier, Twitter is rolling out a specific ad type – Twitter Lead Generation Cards – to help you build mailing list subscribers directly on Twitter.

.

.

Twitter users can click one button to subscribe to your mailing list. This advertising option will be rolling out to small and medium sized businesses soon, so keep an eye out for it. You can read more details about how to set up a Twitter Lead Generation Card in their help center.

.

GetResponse Twitter Lead Generator

GetResponse just added the Twitter Lead Generation Card integration to available integrations. You can find it in Integrations tab in My Account menu.

.

How does it work?

GetResponse generates a unique URL to paste into your Twitter Advertising Card. By using this URL, each Twitter user who clicks the action button inside the Advertising Card will be added to your GetResponse campaign. As simple as that!

How do I generate the URL?

Start from going to My Account > Integrations in your GetResponse account. Select the target campaign – this is where the new contacts from Twitter will be added. After selecting the campaign, click “Get the Submit URL”. Now open the Twitter Ads tab again and copy the generated Submit URL.

That’s all – now you’re ready to create the Advertising Card!

.

Create the card

Log in to your Twitter Ads Account and go to Cards in Advertising menu. Then, click on “Create new card”. On the card settings page, paste the URL generated in GetResponse into the “Submit URL” input field. Please note that the pasted URL shouldn’t contain the https://. After pasting the URL an additional dropdown menu will appear, asking you to choose the HTTP method. The GetResponse integration will work with any selection.

You can also create hidden data fields. They will be added as custom fields when the subscribers are imported into GetResponse. Please note that the created hidden data field will be added to each contact.

Tracking Your Results

To see how your Twitter Ad is progressing, you can use one of the following methods. First, you can go to your Twitter Ads dashboard and see the engagement for your promoted tweet.

.

.

Next, you can go to the Twitter Analytics dashboard within the Twitter Ads area and see stats about all of your latest tweets, included your promotion.

.

 .

And of course, if you have goals set up and used UTM parameters for the URL you tweeted, you can look in your Google Analytics under Traffic Sources > Sources > Campaigns to see if your ads translated to mailing sign ups.

.

 .

If you do not have goals set up, you can look under Traffic Sources > Social > Conversions to see conversions from your general Twitter traffic.

.

.
