Marshall just entered the mobile device space and it looks like it’ll make every musician and music lovers excited to have a smartphone. You’re not buying it for its camera, although at 8 megapixels, it’s more than serviceable. You’re not buying it for the quad-core processor, or 4.7-inch, 720p screen. You’re buying the Marshall London Smartphone for music.
It has two front-facing speakers, not unusual, and two audio outputs (with individual volume control), which is far less common, plus a dedicated M button at the top of the handset for instant access to your tunes. A gold-accented scroll wheel on the left side serves as the volume control. Marshall is also touting the high-quality audio processing inside the London and is bundling a set of its Marshall Mode in-ear headphones to complete the package.
The battery’s not huge at 2,500mAh, but it is removable, plus there’s a microSD card slot for adding extra storage. But, of course, this phone isn’t about the specs, it’s about the music. And, well, it’s about that surprisingly awesome design. The London has been priced at 4,995 Swedish krona (roughly $590) for an expected delivery of August 21st.
It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out for Marshall, obviously they feel there is a need for a phone that is geared to musicians. They also set it up out of the box for some recording, loop stacking and a DJ app.
