American Wills and Administrations in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, 1610-1857 Thousands of Englishmen who immigrated to America between 1610 and 1857 died leaving estates in England. Proving their wills and granting administrations in England were matters dealt with by the Prerogative Court of Canterbury (PCC), which had jurisdiction in such matters. Obviously any information from such records concerning kinship links with Americans is highly important to the genealogist. The abstracts have been arranged in alphabetical order by the name of the deceased, and each abstract contains the name of the testator or intestate, his marital status at the time of his death, the place of death, the former place of residence, the date of probate or administration, the names of executors or administrators, and the names and relationships of family members. Altogether there are about 6,000 abstracts, and the index of names contains references to an additional 5,000 persons. Was $35.00 Now $19.95
Indexes to Irish Wills. Five Volumes in One This is an alphabetical index of over 30,000 diocesan wills proved in the Consistorial Courts of Ireland between 1536 and 1857. Arranged by dioceses, and preceded by maps showing in which dioceses the various Irish counties are situated, the indexes provide the name of the testator, his parish, county, and the date of probate; in short, they are complete lists of diocesan wills proved up until 1857, when the various ecclesiastical courts were abolished by Act of Parliament and superseded by the Probate Court. Index to Alabama Wills, 1808-1870 This is an index to 9,000 wills filed and probated in Alabama between 1808 and 1870. The index itself is a model of simplicity, giving, in alphabetical order, the name of the testator, county of probate, identity of the record source (usually a will book), date of the book, and page number. Index to Georgia Wills This is an index to the earliest surviving will books of Georgia counties formed before the 1832 Land Lottery. It is based on verbatim copies of wills found in county will books. The index contains the names, in alphabetical order, of about 20,000 testators, the name of the county in which the will was filed, and the designation of the book in which the complete will is located. A Digest of the Early Connecticut Probate Records. In Three Volumes These three impeccably edited volumes cover the wills, inventories, distributions of estates, and court records of the men and women who settled in that district of Connecticut embracing Hartford, Wethersfield, and Windsor as far back as 1666. Residents of those towns had their wills proved in Hartford, and this work contains not only accurate transcriptions of those wills but also transcriptions of all related documents, including administration records, inventories of estates, records of estate distributions, and associated court records. Index to District of Columbia Wills, 1801-1920 Dorothy Provine’s important genealogical resource indexes more than 22,700 wills filed in the District of Columbia Orphans’ Court (Probate Court) from 1801 to 1920. In one alphabetical sequence, the entries in this new finding-aid give the name of the testator, the year the will was filed, and the number of the archives box that contains the document. Abstract of Early Kentucky Wills and Inventories This work contains abstracts of the earliest wills of 38 Kentucky counties formed between the years 1780 and 1842 (with the exception of Crittenden County), representing the state as a whole. Index of Maryland Colonial Wills, 1634-1777 This book is an index to all the wills of colonial Maryland (1634-1777) as found in Will Books 1-41 at the old Land Office in Annapolis and now on file in the Hall of Records. It contains the names of approximately 16,000 testators. Was $45.00 Now $25.95
Suffolk County [Massachusetts] Wills Based on a long series of will abstracts that appeared over a period of 45 years in The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, this work encompasses what amounts to the first 30 years or so of the Suffolk County [Greater Boston], Massachusetts, estate records (1640-1670). New Jersey Index of Wills, Inventories, Etc. in the Office of the Secretary of State Prior to 1901. In Three Volumes This monumental work indexes New Jersey wills and probate records from 1663 through 1900. It contains more than 185,000 entries, arranged alphabetically under the name of the testator and intestate for each of the 21 present-day counties of New Jersey. North Carolina Wills and Inventories This work consists of the full text of 200 wills and 50 inventories for the period reaching to the 1760s, when the recording of wills became the responsibility of North Carolina’s counties.
