MAC have kicked off 2017 with a massive bang with a 50 product strong Spring collection in collaboration with three very well known makeup maestros; Diane Kendal, James Kaliardos and Kabuki as part of the MAC Makeup Art Cosmetics Collection. The collection was created to include products which reflect the signature style of each of the three artists and I absolutely love how the collection includes products for everyone from makeup artists through to makeup fans like myself. Each of the three artists have a range of products and shades, and I have a small collection of the 50 products which I’ve been trialling over the last couple of weeks and I’m so excited by what I’ve tried and I couldn’t wait to write this post.
I have to start with the absolute gem of the collection; the MAC x Kabuki The Shining Hour Dazzleshadow Quad which has had me mesmerised from the minute I saw it. There are two four pan eyeshadow quads within the MAC x Kabuki Collection – The Shining Hour and The Best of Everything with each quad costing £25 which is amazing value for four eyeshadows. I’ve been dying to try the MAC Dazzleshadow formula as I love anything with sparkle (hence my blog name) so this eyeshadow quad couldn’t be more perfect and I shared a video of the incredible sparkle and duochrome shifts (here) which gives the shadows a lot more justice than my words could ever do. I took the photos of the quad and swatches without my studio lighting so you could really see the duochrome effect of the shadows, but in real life it’s even more amazing.
The Shining Hour Quad contains four shades; Humoresque (light burgundy pearl with teal reflects), Last Dance (light pink pearl with violet reflects), Heaven Loves You (gold pearl with gold reflects) and Letty Lynton (white pearl with white reflects). Each of the four shades are stunning with a slightly dry texture which are best applied with a slightly dampened brush or applied over the top of a base eyeshadow with a glitter glue primer over the lid to intensify the duochrome effect. The fourth shade in the quad (Humoresque) is seriously stunning and is very reminiscent of MAC Club Eyeshadow, but I really do love all four shades.
Moving onto the MAC x James Kaliardos Collection, I have the MAC Rapidblack Jumbo Penultimate Eye Liner which is a product I’ve never tried before and I couldn’t wait to try as I love eyeliners. It’s a jumbo style liquid eyeliner pen with super intense black pigment. The jumbo style of the pen does mean that the liner creates a thicker, intense line but it does make doing so very easy as it glides across the eyelid with very little effort. I’ve been using this liner for when I want winged liner as it helps me create my wings very easily and it dries down to a satin finish which doesn’t budge.
The next item I have from the MAC Makeup Art Cosmetics Collection is the beautiful MAC Stratagloss Opalite Tricolour Lip Gloss. There are two shades of Tricolour Lip Gloss with each gloss containing three separate shades/finishes which I’ve never seen before in a lipgloss and I so didn’t want to use it incase I ruined the separated design but the shade was just too pretty to sit unloved in my makeup drawers. Stratagloss Opalite is described as a ‘sheer light pink with gold and blue’, with a section of pink creme gloss, a section of pink and gold shimmer gloss and a pearlised section of gloss which when blended together creates the prettiest, pearlised shimmery pale pink which will compliment any lip colour and feels comfortable and smooth upon the lips.
The next MAC x James Kaliardos Collection item I have is the MAC Jasper Satin Lipstick which MAC describe as being a ‘deep reddish brown’ and really reminds me of a brown version of MAC Rebel Lipstick and is such a perfect shade for Winter. The packaging has the same matte black and gold design as the rest of the collection with James Kaliardos signature. I always like when MAC use limited edition packaging for their lipsticks and I like the personal touch of the signatures of the three artists across all of the products. Jasper is very pigmented and comfortable to wear, and the pigmentation surprised me as I usually don’t find MAC Satin finishes to be as intensely pigmented as Jasper. The weartime of Jasper is around the five to six hour mark and it stains the lips once the shade has worn away so it lingers for around eight hours in total, without drying my lips out in the process.
The last item from the MAC Makeup Art Cosmetics Collection I have is the MAC x Diane Kendal Studio Quiktrik Stick in Sheen/Smouldering which is a dual ended, cream stick which can be used on the face for highlighting, contouring and/or bronzing. The stick contains the shade ‘Sheen’ which is a light pinkish champagne shimmer and the other end is ‘Smoldering’ which is a matte brown shade with a super creamy formula which is easy to apply and blend. Sheen is a really subtle highlighter shade which works well for my skintone and Smoldering is a matte chocolate brown which is a little warm for contouring but it works well for bronzing and they both blend in beautifully for a natural, dewy finish. I imagine I’ll get a lot of use out of this dual ended stick over the next few months as I love using cream formulas for my blush, highlight and bronzer during the warmer months.
I’d love to know what you think about these amazing pieces from the MAC Makeup Art Cosmetics Collection? Have you bought any pieces yet?
