Louise Young is such an underrated brand but their makeup brushes are some of my absolute favourites so I was excited when I found out they’d launched the Louise Young Super Smooth Powder and Cream Foundation Palettes. There are two palettes in total; one containing powder foundation formulas and the other containing powder foundation formulas, and each palette is available in two shades – Light/Medium and Medium/Dark. Each of the Louise Young Super Smooth Palettes are £40 which is pretty good value considering they each contain six large x 2 gram pans of product packaged within a deep brown cardboard palette with a mirror inside the lid. The palettes are both very much travel friendly and are perhaps most useful for those that are makeup artists or do other people’s makeup on a more regular basis due to the range of shades within each palette but what I particularly like about the palettes is that they each contain warm, cool and neutral toned shades with professional quality formulas.

The Louise Young Super Smooth Powder Foundation Palette in Light/Medium has a really great mix of shades which I think would cover fair to light/medium skintones as I’m able to use the whole top row and Neutral on the bottom row. It’s so hard to find face palettes which don’t contain deeper, warm shades but this palette really does contain a great selection of shades and tones. You may wonder why you’d need a palette of six different shades but I think they’re handy to own especially if your skintone deepens during the summer months and you don’t want to have lots of different foundations/powders in varying shades to match your skintone as liquid cosmetics tend to have shorter expiry dates than powder formulas. I think these palettes would also be good whilst travelling as you can use the palette to set your makeup, as a powder foundation, to set your concealer and perhaps even use the Medium Rose shade as a blush if you’re pale skinned like myself.

The Louise Young Super Smooth Powder Cream Foundation Palette contains six cream foundation shades again in cool, neutral and cool tones to match a wide range of skintones. Out of the two palettes, I think this palette might be more universal as I like to use the shades for different uses. Ivory works as a great concealer/foundation for my skintone, Warm Beige is a nice peachy shade for under my eyes to counteract any darkness and Almond works as a contour shade for my skintone. The texture of these cream foundations are not like other cream foundation palettes I’ve tried previously where they’ve felt a little greasy and thin. These cream foundations are smooth, creamy, blendable and pigmented just like any other foundation with the convenience of being in a portable palette. I don’t think the palette would work well for being used on a daily basis for your foundation as you’d work your way through the shades quite quickly but if you do any makeup freelancing or want a travel friendly foundation and powder option, I’d recommend giving them a try as well as the amazing Louise Young brushes as they really are fantastic.

Have you ever tried anything from Louise Young before?
