I can’t quite believe that it’s time for the January beauty boxes already but sure enough it is. The Glossybox January 2017 box is called the Edible Edit and is a superfood inspired box which claims to transform your beauty regime. The beauty boxes in January are usually quite skincare centric with the whole ‘new year, new you’ ethos and this month’s Glossybox is very skincare heavy so if you prefer makeup or haircare in your box, or a balanced menu of products then this month’s box is perhaps not for you. The usual pastel pink box features a quote from Deliciously Stella; a ‘tongue in cheek alternative to the barrage of unpronounceable grains and impossible yoga poses’ – You can’t milk an almond. I’m not entirely sure how I feel about the whole parody account and mocking of people’s diet preferences but let’s get onto the contents as that’s what we’re really here for…

I’m really disappointed that the box contains four skincare products and one tiny makeup product as I much prefer a more balanced box with skincare, makeup, haircare and bodycare but I’m not sure we need four skincare products in the one box. The makeup item in question is a 0.5g size of theBalm Matt Moskowitz eyeshadow which features within theBalm Meet Matt(e) Trimony Palette. The leaflet in the box quotes that this eyeshadow is a full size which is absolute rubbish as the full size shadow in the palette is 2.4g so it’s very misleading that Glossybox would label this tiny sample as being fullsize when it very clearly isn’t. The shade is a red toned deep brown which is nice enough but it’s incredibly small and I don’t feel like it should be considered as a product within the box as it’s a sample, and should be treated as such so feel we should have been given another product instead.

The first of the four skincare products is the Unani Illuminate Milk Cleanser which is described as being a gentle cleansing milk based on nutritious natural oils which purifies and protects the skin by removing impurities as well as makeup, leaving it soft and restoring its elasticity. I’ve never heard of this brand before but it would appear it’s a Spanish family run brand which pride themselves on natural beauty products. The next item is the Vitamasques Manuka Honey Face Mask which is a moisturising Korean face mask made with extracts of Manuka Honey to nourish the skin and retails for £3.99 for one single mask. The mask features a triple layer sheet technology designed to enhance the moisture content within the mask and lead to an increased absorption rate within the skin.

Then we have the True Organic of Sweden All your Need Is Me which is an intensive cream for extraordinary care and is an organic natural alternative to the other hour cream. It contains 95% certified organic ingredients and 100% natural ingredients and has multi uses such as; Protects the skin against weather and wind, soothes red and irritated skin, makes the skin soft and supple, relieves minor sunburn whitens and reduces age spots, hydrates dry skin and assists in minor scrapes. The last item in the box is a 30ml sample size of the Nip + Fab Kale Fix Moisturiser containing kale, watercress and almond oil to enrich the skin and protect it against external aggressors such as pollution and stress, whilst concentrated aloe vera and shea butter help to soothe and smooth the skin. I really like Nip + Fab as brand so this is the one item I’m excited about with the box.

So overall it wasn’t an amazing box in my opinion, and I feel that the box was a little underwhelming after their brilliant November and December boxes. I’m not entirely sure the whole superfood theme worked as the Kale Moisturiser is the only superfood ingredient based product within the box. I also didn’t think we needed the moisturiser and skin balm as the balm can be used as a moisturiser. I’m sure this box will please skincare obsessives but for me, I think the box lacks excitement but would love to know your thoughts? Would these contents excite you?
