When I first started blogging four years ago, I felt that it was hard to find good quality natural beauty products but there are a lot more natural beauty brands to choose from and more, and more people are choosing to go natural with their beauty products. I don’t use natural beauty products exclusively, but I like to find natural products which perform well which I can use within my beauty routine and recently I’ve been trying a selection of Lavera products. Lavera Natural Cosmetics is the leading natural and organic skincare brand certified organic by NaTrue, and they offer makeup, skincare, haircare, toiletries and even dental care products and the products are reasonably priced too, and can be purchased via the Pravera website which offers free UK delivery on orders over £10.
Lavera have quite a large range of cosmetic products, and I have three of their colour cosmetic products; one for the eyes, one for the complexion and one for the lips. The Lavera Illuminating Shadow in Electric Green £11.50 looks absolutely stunning in the miniature compact, with a domed pan and multidimensional sparkle but sadly it’s disappointing as it lacks pigmentation and is very dry so it doesn’t pick up onto a brush, and is too dry and dusty to apply with your fingertips. I can’t believe this shadow is £11.50 as it’s such poor quality so I’d recommend skipping this particular range of shadows completely if Electric Green is anything to go by as it’s definitely not worth £11.50 by any means.
Next up is the Lavera Natural Concealer in Honey £10.90 which is quite expensive for a concealer which contains only 6.5ml of product, and there are only two shades available which is ridiculous in all honesty. Honey is an orangey beige shade which would never match a fair or light skintone, but there is a lighter shade than Honey but I don’t hold out much hope from a concealer which only has two shades. I haven’t been able to try the concealer on my face for obvious reasons, but it claims to have a light to medium coverage which creates an even, fresh and glowing complexion and is perfect to combat dark circles under the eyes and skin redness.
After two disappointing products, it does get a little more positive from now on.. the Lavera Glossy Lips in Hazel Nude £9.90 contains carefully selected high quality olive and jojoba oils, and a combination of vitamins and minerals to soothe and pamper delicate lip skin. Hazel Nude is a pretty browny nude shade, which is pigmented enough to impart colour to the lips but can be worn over lipsticks or lipliners. The Glossy Lips isn’t particularly long wearing, but it is comfortable on the lips so if you favour comfort over longevity, they might be worth a try.
My favourite item I’ve tried from Lavera is the Lavera Deep Darkness Mascara £14.90 which is described as containing natural mineral-based ultra-black carbon pigments which work together with the straight wand with thickening bamboo fibres adds volume and deep darkness to your lashes. It contains gentle organic ingredients of carnauba wax, candelilla wax and shea butter will look after your lashes. The mascara is dermatologically and ophthalmologically tested and can also be used when wearing contact lenses. I really like the packaging of this mascara as it feels a little more luxe than the other products so it feels like the higher price tag is deserved whereas the packaging of the eyeshadow, concealer and lipgloss just don’t feel or look very appealing in my opinion. The wand of this mascara has plastic bristles which are nicely spaced apart with varying lengths to catch every lash. The formula feels very comfortable on the lashes, and it does create quite dramatic lashes but I do notice that it does slightly flake throughout the day which isn’t ideal but it hasn’t put me off from using it, but it’s something to consider if you can’t check your makeup during the day.
I have also been trying one of their skincare products – the Lavera Purifying Scrub £6.90 which is suitable for all skin types, and is free of microplastic scrub particles. The scrub contains ginkgo and jojoba pearls to deeply cleanse the skin and remove trapped pollution, impurities and dead skin cells. The scrub smells very fresh and is effective at exfoliating the skin, but due to the purifying formula, it’s a little too harsh for my dry and sensitive skin so it’s not a product I can comfortably continue to use but I imagine it’d be more effective for those with oily to combination skin types where the purifying formula will benefit the skin more than it does mine. I think the Lavera skincare products are a lot more reasonably priced compared to the makeup products, and I prefer the packaging too but that’s just my personal preference.
The last item I used was the Lavera Wild Rose Deep Hydrating Mask £2.90 which is a 10ml single use face mask. The Lavera Hydrating Face Mask promises to give dull, dry and dreary complexions a revitalising and hydrating boost. The facial mask contains Organic Wild Rose along with other effective nourishing natural and organic ingredients including Avocado Oil, Shea Butter, Jojoba and Macadamia Oil as well as hydrating Rose Flower Water to help keep skin moisturised, soft and smooth giving a bright and radiant complexion.
I think £2.90 is pretty pricey for a one use mask, and I don’t personally like rose scented products so I’ve not been able to use it personally but I’m going to gift it to a friend who loves rose as I’m sure she’d like it as it does sound like a lovely mask. Overall I’ve enjoyed being able to try a new brand, but I can’t say I’m wowed by the products I’ve tried apart from the mascara which I really did like. I know Lavera is a popular brand so they obviously have a lot of fans, but for me their products aren’t as high quality as those I’ve tried from other natural brands such as Dr Hauschka, Inika and Lily Lolo. I would perhaps recommend checking Makeup Alley for reviews of the Lavera products as they’re mostly written by those which exclusively use natural products, as their reviews may be a little more beneficial as I personally can’t help but compare the Lavera products to other products I’ve tried which are not necessarily all natural based formulas.
I’d love to know if you’ve ever tried anything from Lavera before?
