“The d’Music App was designed to give our customers access to music right at their fingertips, whenever they want it. Currently, we have over 25 million songs for them to choose from. Once they have an active plan, they can stream music anywhere, once they’re connected to our extensive 4G mobile network.”

Digicel, in celebration of Bob Marley’s birthday that’s coming up on February 6, 2017, has decided to celebrate with a new music streaming App.

The d’Music App will get the baptism by fire at the annual Redemption Live free concert on Half-Way-Tree on Sunday, February 5.  Here are some pictures from the Launch on January 12th 2016.

As usual, the small island territories had it before Jamaica.  Digicel Bermuda had it first since the 28th of September 2016.

Sponsored by Digicel and Red Stripe, the event will feature a lot of Reggae acts with a penchant for Root rock reggae, namely:

Ky-Mani Marley

Ikaya

Kabaka Pyramid

So what exactly is d’Music?

Digicel’s d’Music – Local Content finally gets some respect

d’Music, their aptly title App, serves up a catalogue of some 25 million songs that Digicel customer can stream and download. It also has a website, Digicel Music, as Digicel isn’t leaving out us desktop bound peeps.

Initial being offered on subscription, it comes in two (2) flavours:

Premium

Top Chart

It also serves up music videos as well and also sports an offline and downloading of songs.

Yes, you read that right: you can download the music. So take that Deezer, FLOW Jamaica’s tempting but poorly planned Taste and Buy Data plan as noted in Deezer offers 1GB Taste and Buy Music Streaming on FLOW Jamaica. Launched in the month of October 2016 during the Heroes’ Day Weekend, their Taste and Buy Data plan has yet to kick-start music streaming in Jamaica.

Granted, Digicel’s 3 million customers will only get 25 million songs on d’Music during the 30 day trial, compared to the 40 million via the Deezer App on FLOW Jamaica, also a trial; you gotta pay for stuff now folks.

But the App makes up for this by offering exclusive local content and Bob Marley entire music catalog, thanks to a deal inked with Tuff Gong International to quote Digicel’s head of marketing, Nadia Nivens-Jarrett: “One of the best things about d’Music is that it features a lot of local artistes representing Brand Jamaica. Plus, through our partnerships with organisations like Tuff Gong International, customers can enjoy access to content like Bob Marley music via the d’Music App”.

Digicel, by showing the Reggae and Dancehall artiste some love with their homegrown d’Music Streaming App, may strike gold.

Digicel d’Music – Free Wi-Fi may jumpstart Music Streaming in Jamaica

Good to note free Wi-Fi streaming is possible thanks to their contribution the NSF (National Service Fund), the Government of Jamaica’s kitty money from Telecom Providers.

This free Wi-Fi is a part of the Ministry of Science and Technology’s push towards making New Kingston and other major towns in Jamaica into smart cities. That means lots of CAP (Community Access Points) for free Wi-Fi, such as the following locations, are in the pipeline:

Half-Way Tree

Emancipation Park in Kingston

Spanish Town, St Catherine

Montego Bay, St James

Ocho Rios, St Ann

So albeit Digicel LTE is super fast as described in How to Activate a Digicel LTE Smart Plan on your Smartphone, free Wi-Fi may actually jump-start streaming in Jamaica!

Want to stream 25 million songs from the Bigger, Better Network? Then head over to the Apple App Store, the Google Play Store or Digicel Music Website.
