It would be fantastic if you could always go outside and explore, but you can also learn new things while indoors with apps like Wikids.
Discover Over 190 Topics
Wikids is an encyclopedia app that contains over 190 entries on a variety of topics like animals, space, the human body, musical instruments, countries, and many more. Each entry is only approximately 80 words in written form, so it's easy to digest. It also includes audio narration and colorful images.
When kids open the app, they can choose to browse the entries by alphabet or by category. They can also cycle between entries using the arrows on the bottom of the screen, or by swiping left or right. If they want to go back to a previous entry, they can tap the eye button on the top of the screen to view all opened entries.
Located on the right side of the screen are three small thumbnails. These are the entries that the app deems relevant to the one currently open. For example, when kids explore "Pilot", the app also suggests "Airplane", "Zeppelin", and "Helicopter".
Once kids have selected an entry, the audio narration automatically plays. They can repeat the narration by tapping the refresh button next to the entry title, or turn it off by tapping the sound button on the bottom of the screen.
Parents Need to Know
Wikids is suitable for all ages, but it's especially engaging for kids ages 3-8 who are curious about the world around them. Because there is a voice-over with every entry, young kids can also join in on the learning with little help from grown-ups.

Things I Like
Wikids is an excellent app for kids who love to learn new things. While it's fairly basic in terms of features, it packs a good amount of content to make it worthwhile. The topics are things that kids love, such as animals and transportation, and each subject matter is explained in a concise and kid-friendly way. It's also nice that kids don't need to be able to read to enjoy the knowledge presented in the app.
In the future, I would love to see additional interactive media to better illustrate each entry. For example, an entry for "Rocket" might include a video of a rocket launch. I would also like to be able to zoom in on the images, and mark entries as favorites to quickly access them. These features would make the app even more valuable, and solidify its status as our go-to encyclopedia for kids.
