Just when you start to think that every possible iOS game that could be made has been made, there is always a surprise waiting for you! The surprise comes today from Twiddly Studio, an indie games studio, that is the brains behind SUM IDEA.
Simply put, SUM IDEA is an ingenious and seamless number puzzle game that will surely put your mind through its paces.
While you might be used to go through the usual multitude of splash screens, laborious tutorials and cumbersome cutscenes, SUM IDEA does not waste any time and takes you straight to Professor Addkins who is ready to put you to the test. The game is crafted very nicely, its extremely functional and adheres to a no nonsense interface that makes it fluid, responsive and fun to play. You also do not have to worry about annoying popup ads as you progress from one level to another.
The concept looks fairly simple at first; all you have to do is focus on the placement of numbers in Professor Addkin’s thought bubble and try to match them. Fewer the moves taken, the greater the number of stars earned. Tiles can only be moved / switched with adjacent tiles like in any typical traditional matching puzzle game. The number of moves however are restricted to a certain number depending on puzzle complexity.
What starts off as easy tile swapping soon becomes more like a complex math equation, making you vary of mathematical functions such as addition and subtraction as you swap tiles. This slow and gradual increase in challenge keeps the game interesting and doubles as a skill building exercise. Swapping standard number tiles with an addition tile once would increase the count by 1, every concurrent swap would have a similar effect. Similarly swaps with subtraction tiles would reduce number count by 1.
SUM IDEA uses Facebook connect functionality to enhance user experience and add challenge. It lets you view best scores by your Facebook friends along with their progress and more importantly lets you sync your progress across all your devices. The game also features in-app purchases that allow users to buy hints. So if you think you are permanently stuck, there might a solution for you!
