New Faces Behind the Bar
You’ve probably noticed some fresh new faces behind the bar recently, ever-ready to pull a cold beer and have a chat!
We are very pleased to welcome (left to right) Trevor Dowling, Peter Rosser and Greg Mashford to our team of bar volunteers, which also includes the familiar faces of Rose Pain, Graham Brown and Gail Sweet (Saturday morning BBQ).
All are members of the Gawler Golf Club and willing contribute their time to ensure members and visitors are well watered and fed after working up a hunger and thirst out on course!
When you next drop in to the Club House, be sure to introduce yourself and make them feel welcome.
The Club relies heavily on volunteers to reduce our operating costs while providing a very high standard of service. We are always looking for volunteers to join the team, so we don’t wear out those who regularly commit their time. If you can help either in the bar or in other areas, please contact David – email:manager@gawlergolfclub.com.au
Thanks to the valuable contributing of our volunteers, the bar is now open on the following days for drinks and light meals (new menu coming soon):

Sponsorship News
We are very pleased to announce the addition of two new, high-profile sponsors to the Club – ANZ (Gawler branch) and five-star Barossa Valley winery, Kellermeister!
ANZ have taken up sponsorship of the picturesque 11th hole and have also committed to contributing to the club on an on-going basis through their Mortgage Introducer Program!
Here’s how it works:
If you, or anyone you know, are thinking of buying or re-financing a home, let us know.
We’ll provide you with a referral form to see Roger or Simon at ANZ Gawler (always nice doing business with people you know).
Tee up an appointment with the guys for a no-obligation quote.
Should you decide to go ahead and finance or re-finance your home with ANZ, they will generously donate 0.30% of the loan amount back to the Gawler Golf Club!
Smile :-) You’ve not only just secured one of the best interest rates going around, but also contributed a significant cash injection to the club you love (money that would normally go to a broker)!
All funds generated from the ANZ Mortgage Introducer Program will be put specifically towards a predetermined project for the Club.
If you’d like to help get a project off the ground simply ask David for an Introducer form and make an appointment with the guys at ANZ Gawler.
Roger and Simon are actively involved in promoting the club and are often out on course. Feel free to say hello and ask how they can help you with your loan.
ANZ MORTGAGE INTRODUCER SCALE

$250,000 $750
$350,000 $1050
$450,000 $1,350
$550,000 $1,650

KELLERMEISTER are the inaugural sponsors of our new driving range and have committed to helping the club over the next 3 years. Established in 1976 the Lyndoch based winery has established considerable pedigree, particularly around the winery’s Shiraz and Grenache based wines in recent years.
Under the leadership of owner & winemaker Mark Pearce, the winery has achieved significant success on the world’s biggest stage, the International Wine Challenge, in London, being awarded the World’s Best Shiraz, Australia’s Best Shiraz and the Barossa’s Best Shiraz in 2012. Followed up in 2013 being awarded the Barossa’s Best Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro. Today the winery is rated in the top 7% of Australian producers by Australia’s most authoritative and acclaimed wine critic, James Halliday.
A selection of wines from Kellermeister’s award winning portfolio are now available in the bar, along with their refreshing ‘Boots’ apple cider. Enjoy!
Lightening Detector
Ubimet have recently completed installation of a state-of-the art lightening detector at the Club. The detector will provide the Club with highly accurate communications of storm activity and lightening strikes in the area.Ubimet provides Australia’s largest and most advanced Lightning Detection System and the information will enable us to dramatically improve safety for our members, guests and grounds staff.
The detector also provides site specific weather and the Club is currently in negotiations with Ubimet to gain access to the weather portal through a sponsorship arrangement. If successful, Gawler will be the only Golf Club in South Australia to provide site specific weather to their members.
Aces!
Congratulations to club members Paul Warburton and Brian Sankey who both decided to leave the putter in the bag and just knock in their tee shots – Paul on the 4th and Brian on the 6th.
As well as the imminent glory that proceeds such a feat, Paul picks up a Barossa Highlights Tour for 2 people (valued at $270) from 4th hole sponsor Tour Barossa.
Gawler Golf Club visitor Cecilia Douglas also managed to ace the 6th hole during her round in the recent Ladies Open Day. The achievement capped off what was a fantastic day put on by the Gawler Golf Club ladies.
Member Cards
We are pleased to announce that all members will soon be receiving their very own VIP member card!
The cards will be distributed mid August and provide a number of benefits that will add extra value to your membership and allow us to better serve the membership base.
Stay tuned for more details!
Polished Performance
A quick ‘THANK YOU’ to our lady members for their efforts and work in, sorting, cleaning and polishing the items in the trophy cabinet over the past few weeks. The ladies have done a wonderful job bringing the contents of the cabinet, along with plenty of memories, back to life!
It’s been great also to see life member Beth White back at the club on Wednesday’s and mixing it with the Ladies out on course again after recent illness – welcome back Beth!
Annual General Meeting
The 2015 Annual General Meeting was held at the Club on Tuesday June 23rd.
The committee would like to thank all those who attended for their support and input on the night. Thank you also to all those who registered their apologies.
Please CLICK HERE to download a copy of the minutes from the Meeting.
In line with discussions on the night, it’s pleasing to announce that significant savings have already been implemented through thorough review and negotiation with some of our key suppliers, including Clean Away, Westpac, White pages and BOC Gas.
Further savings are expected as David continues to work through our supplier list.
Changing Name, Preserving History
Committee and management are currently seeking advice on re-branding, as another measure in helping secure the Club’s long term future.
Working with key bodies, including Regional Development Australia and Tourism Barossa, a number of reasons for a change in name have been identified, with the view to building a stronger, better recognised brand.
The key motivators for a change in name are:
To capatilise on our location within the Barossa Valley and the strength of the Barossa brand (which is internationally renown) in order to capture traffic from local, national and international visitors to the region.
To eliminate confusion surrounding the Club’s location and proximity to Gawler and pick up traffic that is lost on a daily basis.
It is important to note that a change in name does not mean a loss of history – rather the change will help ensure that our Club’s history doesn’t become a legacy – all historical honour board and club achievements will continue to be recognised and celebrated.
A Special Business Meeting will be held in the coming month to vote on a name.
In the meantime we would encourage you to discuss any thoughts, ideas or concerns you might have with David in person, by phone or email: manager@gawlergolfclub.com.au
Bunkers
Raking Bunkers
Just a quick reminder to all members to show due diligence in raking bunkers.
Everyone plays a role in keeping bunkers in the best possible condition for their fellow members, particularly during competition rounds.
Course Works – Trees
You will notice work has begun on trimming the pine trees located between the 17th & 18th fairways. When completed, the fairway from the 17th tee will be opened up dramatically to allow a normal shot from the tee. The approach shot to the 18th green from the right hand side of the fairway, will also be greatly improved.
As well as improving the playability and ascetics of the 17th & 18th, pruning has the added benefit of removing dead/excess limbs ensuring nutrients get to the canopy where they are needed – resulting in a nice thick canopy. Allowing air and sunlight in around the base of the trees will also improve the quality of the lie as the fairway grass grows back in.
The work is being carried out by a local arborist at no monetary cost to the club, so we ask for your patience as he goes about his work on Sunday’s over the next 5-7 weeks.
Please exercise caution while work is being carried out and treat the area as GUR where marked.
