Over 1,500 unusual plates were sold which included HA11 RRY, G41 RRY, OSC 14R, CR15 TEL and RAB 3IT

The DVLA auctioned over 1,500 personalised registrations this week  including the ‘ultimate’ plate for a Chelsea Tractor.

The registration 1 SUV, the abbreviation used for Sports Utility Vehicles , had a reserve price of £2,400 but an unknown business man paid nearly £60,000 for the cherished plate yesterday.

The plate was the best selling number plate at the three day event which raised millions of pounds for the DVLA.

Adam Griffiths, of DVLA Personalised Registrations, said: “Everyone in the industry knows there’s a huge debate on which car is the ultimate SUV.

While we aren’t qualified to judge which vehicle is the best on the market, we are offering what we believe to be the ultimate in SUV-related personalised registrations in 1 SUV and SUV 70Y.”

However, the personalised plate will have some way to go to beat the £233,360 raised by KR15 HNA in the 2015 auction which helped proceeds rise above £5 million.

Other personalised registration plates which were sold at Tankersley Manor Hotel near Barnsley included HA11 RRY, G41 RRY, OSC 14R and CR15 TEL.

More unusual plates available at the sale include RAB 3IT, WH15 PER and SKA 80Y.

The registration plate sale took place before the new 16 number plates are introduced in March.

New plates are introduced to UK cars twice a year and are used to indicate when and where the vehicle was registered.
