Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center

Friday, Oct. 3

The Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center will present “All About the Moon,” through Nov. 1. Highlights are “The Moon: Cosmic Decoder Ring” 3D exhibit, a mini “planetarium,” moon folklore and myths and video features about the moon in our theater.

Accuweather.com astronomy blogger Mark Paquette will give a special presentation about the moon for older kids and adults. The presentation, which features stunning images and graphics, will be held two times that day: 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The program is included in the regular admission price.

There will be regular $5 per person (children 2 years and under free) admission. Hours are from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday through Saturday. For more information, please call 814-938-1000. The Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center is located at 201 N. Findley St., Punxsutawney.

Haunt Season “Freaks”

Ravenwood Manor

Ravenwood Manor’s Haunt Season “Freaks” will open for its first weekend on Oct. 2-5. Its last weekend will be Nov. 1-2. Kids are admitted free and tickets are $12 for adults.

The ticket booth opens at 7 p.m. each night and closes at midnight. Personal checks and credit cards are not accepted for payment.

The groups entering the mansion consist of seven to nine guests. Most children who are under the age of 8 years often cannot make it through the attraction.

The Haunted Attraction Tours last approximately 26 minutes and pass through three floors of mayhem.  Dozens of seasoned actors have been waiting for the arrival of guests.

No use of photography is permitted inside the premises.

Farmers Market, downtown DuBois

Saturday, Oct. 4

The downtown DuBois farmers markets will continue every Saturday through Oct. 25. The farmers markets will be open from 8 a.m. – 11 a.m. at the Long Avenue and Brady Street parking lot.

Coalport Flea Market

There is a flea market the first Saturday of the month through October. It is held from 8 a.m.  – 2 p.m.  You can bring your yard sale items and there’s always room for vendors, crafters, businesses, individuals, etc. Church, school groups and non-profits are all welcome.

Coalport Farmers Market

Saturday, Oct. 4

There is a farmers market the first Saturday of every month through October. It will be held in the Beechwood Park along with the Coalport Flea Market each month.

Set-up will begin at 6:30 a.m. and the market is open from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. You are invited to participate by just showing up. The farmers market vendors are limited to various food products and plants.

This is an open-air market. You will need to bring your own tables, chairs, canopies, etc. The sizes of available spaces are unlimited at this time, as there’s a lot of room in the park currently available. There is a set-up fee of $10 per vendor per day.

Autumnfest and Garden Tractor Pull

An Autumnfest and Garden Tractor Pull will be hosted Saturday, Oct. 4 at Bilger’s Rocks.

Registration will be held from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.; the Garden Tractor Pull will be from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Also, there will be music by Keith Lucas, “Acoustic Fusion,” after the pulls.

Craft and flea market vendors are welcome for a $10 vendor fee.

All proceeds are to benefit the maintenance and continuation of Bilger’s Rocks Association’s park and facilities.

Oktoberfest and Family Festival

Curwensville’s Oktoberfest Family Festival will take place Oct. 4-5 at the Community Center located at 11 Stadium Dr.

The event schedule for Saturday is: 8 a.m., 5K registration; 9 a.m., 5K run/walk; 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., art and artisans show; 1 p.m. – 3 p.m., live auction; 1 p.m. – 7 p.m., pig roast; 2 p.m. – 4 p.m., pumpkin decorating; 3 p.m. – 5 p.m., hayrides; 4 p.m. – 5 p.m., baking contest; 5 p.m. – 6 p.m., pie eating contest; 6 p.m. – 9 p.m., adult dance/”Just Us;” and 9 p.m., fireworks display.

The event schedule for Sunday is 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., brunch (fuel-aide benefit); 12 p.m. – 1 p.m., to be determined; 1 p.m. – 2 p.m., Heather Olson; 2 p.m. – 3 p.m., A Day Awaits; and 3 p.m. – 4 p.m., Community Choir.

The Oktoberfest Family Festival will feature an array of merchants, blood pressure checks, educational and firemen’s displays, face painting, family relay games, Penn Highland flu shots, helium balloons, kids storytelling and regional artisans.

Also, a Halloween “Spooktacular” will take place on Oct. 25 at the Community Center. It will be a costume contest and party for infants through children in the sixth grade.

The “Spooktacular” will follow “Trunk or Treat” at Chidboy’s until 5:30 p.m. Judging will take place at 4:30 p.m. and awards will be presented afterward.

The annual Grape Stomp will be held Saturday, Oct. 4 at the Starr Hill Vineyard & Winery. Attendees can bring a lawn chair and enjoy music by “Acoustic Highway,” starting at 1 p.m. Also, they can enjoy food, wine and of course foot-stomping grapes. Gobbler’s Knob Wine Festival

The Gobbler’s Knob Wine Festival will have two sessions Saturday, Oct. 4.

The first session is from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. and the second session is from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Tickets are $25 for regular admission and $10 for a designated driver ticket.

Appetizers are included with the purchase of both tickets.  Also, there will be live acoustic music and each session will have an appearance by Punxsutawney Phil.

On Thursdays at 10 a.m., “Terrific Twos” will be held with Miss Becky. During this program, 2-year-olds and their parent/caregiver will enjoy this fun-filled story time that will be packed with books, songs and finger-plays.

Owl Prowl Hike, Parker Dam

Anne S. Thacik Charity Auction

The 19th annual Anne S. Thacik Charity Auction will be held Oct. 9 at the Knights of Columbus, Clearfield. The silent auction begins at 6 p.m. and the live auction at 7:30 p.m. Guests will enjoy wine, desserts and more. Call 814-765-2696 to reserve your tickets today. Tickets are $10 each and a business group of 15 tickets is $100.  The charity auction benefits the Friends of the Area Agency on Aging and the Auxiliary of the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging Inc.

The Philipsburg Revitalization Corp., along with Carns Equipment of Clearfield, will raffle off a brand-new 2014 Polaris Ranger 570 Side-by-Side.

Chances are $5 each and can be purchased by calling Dana Shoemaker at 814-577-3954 or by e-mailing mainst@philipsburgpa.org. The off-road vehicle will be given away at 1 p.m. after the Christmas parade Dec. 6 in downtown Philipsburg.

The winner does not need to be present at the parade; however, if the winner is present, the PRC will pay the Pennsylvania sales tax and registration.  There is also a second prize of $250 and a third prize of $150 in cash.
