CLEARFIELD – Josh Benton, Buck’s Pizza owner, DuBois, and K.C. Lezzer, owner of the property that previously housed CVS Pharmacy, Clearfield, presented plans last night to Clearfield Borough Council for a proposed Buck’s Pizza restaurant.
Lezzer said he’d approached Clearfield businesses about opening a restaurant, but none were interested and he expanded his search to DuBois. Benton presented plans for the proposed Buck’s Pizza. He said the Clearfield location will be similar to Dubois with seating for 189 people.
Benton stressed the proposed Buck’s Pizza won’t be a bar, but will have a full menu of pizza, pasta, sandwiches and salads with the option of alcoholic beverages served with food.
He noted less than 5 percent of sales last year at the Dubois restaurant were for alcohol. He added the restaurant closes at 10 p.m. weekdays and at 11 p.m. Saturdays.
Rob Swales, chief executive officer of Clearfield County Economic Development Corp. (CCEDC), reported his board is overwhelmingly in support of the proposed restaurant. Swales noted the location supports the Riverfront Redevelopment Project.
Swales said Buck’s Pizza will be a tax benefit to the borough, reviving a blighted property that’s been vacant for 2.5 years. Swales said it’ll provide wage tax revenue from employment opportunities.
Benton said the DuBois Buck’s Pizza employs 30 to 35 people, with more than 10 full-time positions.
Benton has applied to transfer the liquor license to the borough from Sandy Township for the proposed restaurant.
Borough Operations Manager Leslie Stott said a public hearing regarding the liquor license transfer is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. May 29. A special meeting will be held at 7 p.m. to vote on the transfer.
Stott reported the Street Department has completed pick-ups for spring clean-up. Residents are reminded to further remove and dispose of yard waste at either the borough’s or Lawrence Township’s composting sites. It was noted the borough will notify residents if yard waste isn’t removed from curbs.
Stott also reported the street crew has started work on asphalt curbing on Daisy Street in preparation for paving projects.
Fire Chief Todd Kling reminded residents to post house numbers. He said many new fire and ambulance crew members have difficulty locating an address that isn’t clearly designated. Code Enforcement Officer Larry Mack met with Stott regarding the house numbers issue and will be working with residents to remedy it.

road closings and traffic control for Clearfield YMCA 5K on Aug. 2, Clearfield County Fair Queens for a Cause on June 8 and a Trinity United Methodist Church event on Sept. 13.
to close the skate park June 28 and July 12 for horse shows.
to send Police Officer Shawn Fye to firearms training at a cost of $595.
to reappoint AnnJane Ross, Andrew Brickley and James Leitzinger to the Civil Service Commission and to authorize the preparation of a list of potential full-time patrol officers.
