By Jenna Pitcher PlayStation Network services are gradually coming back online for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, according to the official PlayStation Support Twitter account.
Update: PS4, PS3, and Vita network services are gradually coming back online - thanks for your patience
— Ask PlayStation (@AskPlayStation) December 27, 2014
At the time of writing, IGN team members in Europe could access core services, such as the PlayStation store, Friends list and game servers. Team members in Australia were unable to access the features.
Both Microsoft's Xbox Live and Sony's PlayStation Network services began suffering connectivity and functionality issues on December 25. Users were experiencing issues from accessing online games and features, inability to sign in to complete service outages. Both services had sporadic moments of varying functionality during the outage period with respective support teams providing continuous updates explaining efforts to investigate the issues and restore services.
Core functions - connectivity, online multiplayer, and access to the online store - on Xbox Live were recently restored for Xbox One after Microsoft stabilized the service on Xbox 360 several hours earlier.
IGN reached out to Sony and will update this story with any new details.
