Terraria is a 2D open ended sandbox game along the lines of Minecraft. The gameplay centers around exploration, building what you need in order to survive and fighting of various monsters that may en roach on your territory. Terraria is one of the games which took advantage of nostalgia in gaming with its 8-bit sprites. Which maybe part of its commercial and critical success.

Terraria was developed by the gaming studio Re-Logic. Terraria was originally released for the PC on May 16, 2011. It became the best selling game on Steam for that week. Over taking such triple A games as Portal 2 and Witcher 2. By the time January 2013 has rolled in. Terraria has sold more than 2,000,000 copies worldwide. Terraria was also released for the Playstation and Xbox at the end of March 2013 with some exclusive content included in the game.

No two worlds are the same in Terraria. Which definitely ups its replayability factor among gamers. Even a couple of years after its initial release. It is still one of the most popular sand box games out there. The game starts with a random world. In which the player must quickly learn to adapt before night comes or be without shelter for the first night in Terraria (I have been there). The player starts with the basic tools for his survival. A sword, pickaxe and an axe. Using these tools. He must build his home and fend off a variety of creatures during nighttime.

The player can also start crafting tools and other basic necessities. He could craft upgrades for his tools. He could make armor or build a house. The player must also build houses for other NPC's that may inhabit the world of Terraria. NPC's would come depending on which goal you have achieved. The player can also unlock hard mode which is a harder version of the game.
