Here’s a first! GameStop always has a yearly game expo of its own, designed for its employees to learn more about forthcoming game and hardware. It’s typically only for people affiliated with GameStop, but this year the event is open to ordinary people who happen to be PowerUp Rewards members.

The GameStop Expo 2012 is a one day event held on August 29, 2012. People gather at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas from 11am-4pm. Of course, some people will need to get there a bit earlier to register. VIPs can attend General Session presentations by major companies at the nearby Lila Cockrell Theater. Everyone else gets to roam the convention hall, visiting booths from companies like Sony, Nintendo, Square Enix, Ubisoft, Capcom, Namco Bandai, WB Games, XSEED, Aksys, Activision and EA.

Now, let’s get down to what GameStop Expo 2012 is going to cost you. It isn’t a free event, though PowerUp Rewards members with extra points can trade those in to pay for their admission. If you don’t have any points, then a general admission pass will cost $35 or a VIP pass will cost you $100. The general pass basically gets you into the event. The VIP pass is infinitely better as you get a swag bag, a pass that lets you into VIP lines for all events, GameStop hospitality room access and admitance to the special general sessions at the aforementioned Lila Cockrell Theater.

I suppose if you have enough money to spend on it, this could be a good opportunity. Just remember that anyone not in the San Antonio area also has to pay travel expenses. Getting a hotel and airfare on such short notice isn’t going to be cheap!
