This year’s Madden Super Bowl simulation puts the New England Patriots on top of the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI with a final score of 27-24. Each year, Madden developer EA Sports predicts the outcome of the upcoming Super Bowl with the latest installment in the series. The simulation has been an annual event since 2004, and Madden holds a 9-4 record in prediciting the correct victor. Its last correct prediction was in 2015 when it not only predicted the New England Patriots would beat the Seattle Seahawks, but it also correctly predicted the final score and a fourth-quarter comeback for Brady’s offense, as we mentioned last year. This year, the official Madden NFL 17 simulation predicts yet another comeback victory for New England quarterback Brady. A Business Wire press release gives the details of how the Super Bowl could play out. According to Madden, the Falcons will score first with RB Tevin Coleman making his way to the end zone on a 15 yard pass completion. Brady fires back with a 38-yard pass to WR Chris Hogan, resulting in a game tied at 7-7 to end the first quarter. In the second quarter, Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan slings a deep pass to Julio Jones to set up a 5-yard rushing touchdown by RB Devonta Freeman. The Patriots close the gap a bit with a field goal by kicker Stephen Gostkowski to put the score at 17-10 in the Falcons’ favor headed into halftime. After Lady Gaga’s halftime show, the two teams come back with more stellar offensive play. The Patriots score first on a 9-yard pass to RB Dion Lewis followed later by another field goal by Gostkowski. The third quarter ends with the Patriots leading the Falcons 20-17. The fourth quarter becomes a defensive battle, with Matt Ryan finally answering back on a 12-yard touchdown pass to WR Mohamed Sanu Sr. With only four minutes left, the Falcons are up 24-20. Then, as depicted in the video above, it all crumbles for Atlanta. Brady manages to sling a touchdown pass to WR Julian Edelman on a tense 4th and 4 situation with only 20 seconds on the clock, and the Falcons don’t have the chance to respond. Madden says that Brady will finish the game with a staggering 77 percent pass completion. Brady goes 30 for 39 with 305 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. With those stats, he easily walks away with the MVP award. Lewis and teammate LaGarrette Blount combine for 100 rushing yards to help move the offense along as well. On the Falcons’ side, Matt Ryan finishes with 287 yards, completes 24 of his 36 passes, and snags two touchdowns to one interception. The Falcons struggle on the ground, as Freeman and Coleman combine for only 87 rushing yards on 25 attempts. So while Madden was wrong to predict a Panthers victory in Super Bowl 50, it was correct in many of the details concerning Tom Brady and his Patriots’ victory the previous year. Combine that with the fact that Madden has never incorrectly predicted two consecutive outcomes, and it looks plausible that Brady will walk away with his record-breaking fifth Super Bowl ring.
