DirectX co-creator Alex St John sparked vigorous reaction on the weekend, thanks to a guest post he wrote on VentureBeat.

The post came as a response to an article by VentureBeat's Dean Takahashi about the toll taken on developers by "crunch," the practice of subjecting studio staff to large amounts of overtime work (up to 80+ hours a week, according to a study published on Gamasutra) in order to ship games.

St John bemoaned what he calls the "wage-slave attitude" of modern game developers, while bragging about his career.
