Kickstarter is really firing on all cylinders at the moment, given the recent record-smashing success in funding Yooka-Laylee. However, it doesn’t appear as if this crowd-driven momentum was a freak one-off kind of thing.

Less than 24 hours ago, famed developer Koji Igarashi officially launched a Kickstarter campaign for his new “Igavania”-style game called Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. If you’re not familiar with him by name, Igarashi had a long history with the Castlevania franchise, before being forced by Konami to shift his attention towards the mobile market. In March 2014, he resigned from the company and long-time fans were left guessing where he’d go next.

It was more than a year before we got anything, but quite recently the website, swordorwhip.com popped up out of nowhere, indicating that Igarashi was definitely back and that he was working on new game which was clearly inspired by his work on Castlevania. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is that game, it hit Kickstarter this morning, and at the time of writing, it has already exceeded its funding goals; arguably matching the fan-driven momentum behind Yooka-laylee. It’s clear there is an industry for these games, and we’re keen to see if both teams can turn around the current impression of larger crowdfunded games (especially given the bumpy ride of Tim Schafer’s Broken Age.)

If you would like to know more about Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, you can find information from the Kickstarter page below. Otherwise, you can jump right on over to the page direct to pledge and get onboard with the hype.

An exploration-focused, side-scrolling platformer featuring RPG and crafting elements.

Koji Igarashi, the namesake of “Igavania”-style games, is leading the project, with Michiru Yamane composing the music and Inti Creates leading the development.

If funded, the game will be developed for XBOX One, Playstation 4, and PC. For the first time on Kickstarter, backers will have the option to receive actual PS4 / XB1 / PC retail discs.
