Lee Laporte, TWiT network creator, announced that his incredibly popular TWiT Network will be relaunching the show that turned him into a household name in the tech world, The Screen Savers. The show was a staple of the TechTV (R.I.P.) network before it turned into G4 and into whatever the hell it is now. The Screensavers was my show of choice during my high school years, and I can even remember getting my parents to change cable providers just so I could catch the show daily when I got home from school.

This new Screensavers show will hit the air on May 2 and mirror the same style of show that it was all those many years ago. Unlike the television original, this new version of the show will air on a weekly basis (the original was daily) and be live streamed on the TWiT Network Saturdays at 3PM. User will also be able to watch at their own leisure online after the show airs as well.

The show will follow much of the same format of the original with seven on-air segments including:

News – Discuss the top 1-2 tech news stories of the week

Call For Help – Answer questions from the audience over Skype

Long variety segment – Rotating

Short variety segment – Rotating

Call For Help – Answer more questions

Hot Button – Discuss a trending topic in the tech world

Mailbag – Calls and emails from the audience

What’s even better for us fans of the original show is the fact that many faces from the TechTV days will be joining Leo as rotating co-hosts. The included list of former co-hosts that are already scheduled to appear include Kate Botello, Patrick Norton, Kevin Rose, Morgan Webb, John C. Dvorak, and Martin Sargent. While its been ten years since The Screensavers went off the air, and many of these names have gone of to become major player in the tech and business world, it’s great to see them coming back once again, even if it’s only for a few episodes at a time.

Of all the things I wished got rebooted over the years, The Screensavers was always at the top of my list. See you all on May 2nd! Check out the announcement trailer below:
