Firsts

Despite playing well, the Firsts had to give second best to Blackrock College on Saturday last in their opening game of the Ulster Bank League losing by 20 points to 13. Blackrock led 8-3 at the break with the Corinthians score coming from a penalty from Simon Keller. The try coming from Sean Connolly in the Second Half with Keller kicking the rest of the points. While it was disappointing to start with a defeat, this team are improving with every game and the results are not far away.

The Squad were as follows: Colin Joyce, Pat O’Toole, Matthew Burke, Sean Connolly, Colin Raftery, Sam McCormack, Stuart Royle, Lise Soloa, Stephen Kerins, Simon Keller, Colm de Buitlear, Cathal Evans, James Buckley, Joe Murphy, Dave Panter, Craig Hansberry, Dylan Donnellan, Aaron Broderick, Ger O’Connor, Ross Keller.

Next up is our first home game of the season in what is going to be a special day with several games on at the Club. Belfast Harlequins are the visitors to Cloonacauneen and kick off is at 2.30.

Seconds

The Second’s Game with Creggs did not go ahead last weekend so all focus is now on next weekend and their game against Castlebar. Kick off at Corinthian Park on Sunday is at 2.30pm.

Thirds

The Senior Thirds played their first game of the season against Ennis at Corinthian Park on Saturday winning by 31 points to 8 scoring five tries in the process with special mention for Greg “Flash” Faherty who scored two. Preparations continue next Saturday with another Friendly against Scarriff at Corinthian Park at 1pm. Support would be appreciated. The League starts on Sunday the second of October with full details next week.

Underage

It is a busy weekend ahead for the club’s underage teams with games for teams from under 13 all the way to the Youths! If you can at all, please get out and support these talented young players and they would appreciate all the support that cheers them on!

Under 13’s

The Under 13’s have a game this weekend at home to Galwegians Black with the game kicking off at 1.30pm.

Under 14’s

The Under 14’s game with Castlebar was called off last weekend and will now be played next weekend at 4pm on Pitch Two. This is a great opportunity for those who are at the Ulster Bank League game to see the future senior players of Corinthians RFC strut their stuff.

Under 15’s

The Under 15 team are on the road this weekend as they head down the motorway to Dubarry Park and Buccaneers on Saturday. Kick off is at 2.30. Players will be advised of travel arrangements.

Under 16’s

The Under 16’s played Buccaneers in the league last weekend and came away with an excellent 29-17 win. Hubert Costello had an incredible game scoring three tries while Ethan Connolly and Diarmuid Kilcommins scoring the other tries. David McCarthy kicked two conversions. This was a total panel performance with all twenty three on the squad getting game time. Best of luck to all who are taking part in the Connemara Triathlon next weekend.

Under 17’s

The Under 17’s take on Ballinrobe this Sunday in Ballinrobe with kick off at 12 noon. Players will be advised of travel arrangements.

Under 18’s

The Under 18’s are at home this weekend to Buccaneers in the League with kick off at Corinthian Park at 12 Noon. Support appreciated.

Minis

Last Saturday was an excellent day of training for All Mini Rugby Players and well done to everyone for their hard work. We would also like to welcome those who have joined our Mini Coaching team this season and we also have our first lady coach Trish Garrett. Welcome Trish!

The Connacht Branch is organising Coaching courses for Mini Rugby Coaches next Friday evening and again on Saturday. Please contact Kevin if you are interested and would like more information. These courses will be held in the Sportsground.  Training continues next Saturday in Corinthians at 10am Sharp. All coaches are asked to be there for 9.30.

Girls Rugby

U13’s and U15’s Girls Rugby continues at Corinthian Park every Monday evening at 7pm. New girls are extremely welcome and are invited to come and meet our existing players and try out a training session or even come and have a look during a session to see if it is something that they would enjoy. You do not need to have played rugby before and the emphasis will be on enjoying the game of rugby, playing safe rugby and enjoying being part of a girls rugby team.

President’s Pre Match Lunch

Just a quick note to mention that Club President Kieran Browne’s Pre-Match lunch is on upstairs in the clubhouse at 12.30 on Saturday next ahead of the first’s first home game of the season against Belfast Harlequins.
